Our wet weather has continued, rain turning to #snow yesterday morning. Luckily we didn't get anything close to the forecast possible totals (15-20cm by today)- we had a few inches handful of cm, we did a preliminary -slushy!- shovelling yesterday, but only another cm or less by this afternoon. Still more chances today/tomorrow.

A section of driveway with a handful of cm/several inches of fresh wet snow shovelled to the right (on top of previously remaining snow pile), with the ground still mostly white with snow remnants and slush from the rain and meltwater soaked ground as the snow began. To the right we see the bottoms of a row of snow coated spruce trees, and ahead as the driveway curves to the right is a mix of spruce and poplar trees, along with a low 'fence' made from narrow planks of wood set on top of low vertical chunks of log.

An open tangle of many thin stems and branches of maple, rowan, willow and cherry, all coated in snow on an overcast, darkening late afternoon. Near centre a small, long needled pine stands out with its much heavier coating of snow. Beyond is a bit of an open snowy area then a line of trees, with lots of dark spruce. All snow coated as well.

I mentioned a couple of days ago that we had a #weather forecast for #rain + #snow possibly quite a bit. It stayed rain longer than forecast, finally going white (for a short time) late his morning; stopped for now, but still a possibility of 10-20cm through tomorrow night. We see part of the bottom of a balsam poplar tree trunk in upper left, leaning away out of frame. It is medium/dark grey, deeply furrowed vertically and covered in a thin layer of green moss and lichens in silver-green. The base of one large root shows at the left of the trunk and extends toward the lower left of the image, dividing the frame nearly in half, diagonally. The ground is covered with grey to red-brown fallen leaves from last year with a few small clumps of dried grass and fallen dark twigs here and there. Everything is wet dark. We don't see the root itself after the first foot or so away from the trunk, but we can tell where it is just below the surface, since the shallow or lacking soil on top of it has meant nothing is growing there except moss.The moss is bright to reddish green, with a generous sprinkling of dry red spruce needles. It rises just above the leaf litter in irregular clumps and blobs, sometimes touching, some with gaps, higher near the trunk, lower farther away as the root decreases in size/height.

I admire Danielle Smith for what she is, and bizarrely sort of respect her for it. She's a woman that's willing to kill perfect strangers for personal profit, and not just a person here or there, but like to commit wholesale murder for pennies on the dollar. And she's discovered that Albertans, the every day people of #Alberta are perfectly happy to go along with it, and be victims of her, because of their small souls or moral failure or whatever.

Special Weather Statement in effect for:
Clearwater Co. near Rocky Mtn House and Crimson Lake
Wintry weather returns to Alberta this week. Expect winter travel conditions from Wednesday overnight to Friday across central Alberta.

Heavy wet snow will begin Wednesday night over parts of west-central Alberta, including for Grande Prairie, Whitecourt and Edson.

On Thursday morning, snow will intensify across central Alberta, including the Edmonton area. South of Edmonton, across central-southern Alberta including Red Deer and areas east, rain mixed with freezing rain is possible before transitioning to snow Thursday afternoon.

Snowfall amounts of 5 to 20 cm of snow is forecast by Friday morning across central Alberta, with higher accumulations of 25 cm possible near the Rocky Mountains and over west-central Alberta near Grande Prairie.

Given the warm temperatures to start the week and uncertainty in how fast the snow will fall, confidence in total snowfall accumulations is moderate.

A tiny and complex bit of silver-grey lichen composed of many tiny birds-nest shapes and some longer flat pieces with tinier dots that will presumably grow into more of those tiny bowls. The surrounding twig, smaller than finger diameter, is dark and bumpy, mostly blurred- bark texture and maybe another dark lichen?

A T-shaped branch intersection (no more than finger diameter, probably less) with the arms of the T starting from lower left angling to upper right, the upright of the T angling to lower right. Just at the centre of the intersection, the twig is wrapped in a golden orange fine textured lichen.It is composed of flatter bits underneath and roundish tiny mounds on top-- kind of like little piles of red letils cooked till they are starting to fall apart. To each side on the bar of the T are equally tiny bits of silver foliose lichen. Backround is blurred warm grey woodland.

My not especially large, pinkish finger is held beside a dark twig, which is a little smaller in diameter, and with multiple spots of several kinds of very tiny lichens- the close-ups to come show patches no bigger than a (short) fingernail.

Overcast day, subtle light. Fuzzy silvery grey catkins beginning to emerge brush-like from their sticky red brown bud casings. Similar to pussywillows but with longer hairs (and they will stretch out *much* more as they emerge fully). Several catkins cluster at the tip of an upright twig, a couple more blurred in the background. Farther back light coloured aspen trunks form a blurred vertical abstract pattern with the shadowed areas between.
