Dear @Mer__edith and the the amazing @signalapp team,

After the last update, the Signal "desktop app" is requiring us to launch the mobile app - however, many of us do not have the Android or any other "mobile" version of the Signal app any more.

We are a large (by our standards) group of #Linux phone users, and your "desktop" app is our "mobile" app : )

Our previous phones on which #SignalApp was initially activated was an Android or Apple device and we have since then completely migrated to #Linuxphones. Some of us may have registered Signal on #signalcli, Flare, #Molly, Signal Android in #WayDroid, etc.

The #mobileLinux community is growing - we have members spanning a good number of projects and devices, e.g.
- @purism #Librem5 and #LibertyPhone running #Debian-based #PureOS #GnuLinux, #Alpine-based #PostmarketOS or #Mobian,
- @PINE64 #Pinephone and PP Pro running #ManjaroARM, #SailfishOS, etc.
- @furilabs #FLX1 running #Droidian-based #FuriOS,
- a wide variety of Android phones (including OnePlus 6, Google Pixel 3, #Fairphone 4 & 5) running #Alpine-based @postmarketOS ,
- @volla , #Fxtec and #Brax3 devices running #UbuntuTouch by @ubports,
- devices running @mobian which is part of #Debian project, etc.

[Apologies to any project I may have failed to include - you are all appreciated]

It's funny how we will sometimes pass by a location a dozen times and not give it a second thought until the right light or conditions present.

While snowshoeing last week in the #Vancouver #Mountains I came to a spot freshly covered in snow, that I've never seen without its usual trail. I would never have thought to take a photo here had it not been for the fresh snowfall covering all indication that a path laid here.

joyfully running apk upgrade on alpine with root on zfs
apk defaults to not asking questions
apk pulls latest lts kernel
now building zfs kernel module
zfs kernel module fails to build
kernel was swapped anyways

on reboot,
The ZFS modules are not loaded
initramfs emergency recovery shell launched

fsck!

enjoy chrooting your way back in

Looks like #alpinelinux is desperately in need for migrating their servers to some other hoster. They are looking for sponsors, who are willing to support this project. Please share, such that they will find a new digital home. Requirements are transparently listed in the blog post.

So getting #landlock -ed #snac to work on #alpine is more involved than I thought...
When tracing syscalls and setting CURLOPT_VERBOSE, no failed syscalls show up on any network request... Also, curl is compiled with c-ares on alpine, but that still should only require /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/hosts.
Not sure where to continue debugging...

@MacLemon yeah, Ubuntu sucks in being a good server os. I don't understand why people put it on their servers. I personally have two servers, one is running #debian and the other one #alpine. Both of these systems are awesome when it comes to being light with #alpine having an even bigger advantage over debian in this case.
