Sounds of the Forest

We are collecting the sounds of woodlands and forests from all around the world, creating a growing soundmap bringing together aural tones and textures from the world’s woodlands.

The sounds form an open source library, to be used by anyone to listen to and create from. Selected artists will be responding to the sounds that are gathered, creating music, audio, artwork or something else incredible, to be presented at Timber Festival 2021.

Something interesting occurred when I updated this toot. As the composition was being uploaded I did not pay attention and pressed send. The server got confused didn't send the updated version because the image was not there yet and kept the old one. My Local Client noticed the problem and kept the updated version for itself

When bluetoothd starts to barf with cryptic messages in /var/log/syslog (which I constantly monitor on this machine) after I diagnosed horrificly low quality audio (in the flat side of the audio spectrum (which is balanced audio)) Is when I would rather have the message to be in the gracefull Norsk language with a **specific cause** for the corruption than the generic message the daemon spouted.

The fix was simple, I routed the audio as usual through an unbalanced tip/sleave cable eliminiting the BT tranceiver interface, which does introduce noise

I figured out automating the MP3 glitching I describe in this blog post! reillyspitzfaden.com/posts/202

It's extremely basic, but I almost never use Python, so I'm glad to find that it works. The code is on GitHub, and I'll be adding more as I refine it: github.com/reillypascal/mp3gli

Here's the glitched up MP3 I tested:

I see a number of recent Roland MT-32 clone projects out there, built using Raspberry Pi and the like. I don't see any that are being sold, pre-assembled.

The BulkyMIDI-32 looks great, but I don't think it's being sold, assembled.

If such things are on offer, can someone point me to a decent unit?

People who participate in online meetings using platforms like Zoom may want to pay closer attention to how their computer microphone alters the sound of their voice.
That's because high-quality audio can make the speaker seem more attractive and convincing to others, according to results published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. @npr reports:

„Hi Niels,

Your Waves Update Plan for the following products will expire in 14 days. This means that your 2nd licenses for these products will expire in 14 days as well, on April 06, 2025.“
