I hiked on a new local trail today— one that led to this lake. I am very familiar with the lake as I had already canoed on it, including paddling around this island that is in the middle of this pic. So nice to revisit it on foot! #hiking #nature

These icy sections of #trail are what remained of the #winter in this mountain that hiked earlier this week. The #ice appeared once I got above a certain elevation but was only present below the tree line. Didn’t need microspikes as I could “rock hop” through the sections of ice. #FootpathFriday #mountains #hiking

I hiked to the top of this big rock today in southern #NewHampshire (Mt. Monadnock). Glad to make it up safely on this long steep section of trail (class II) as it had turned into a frozen #waterfall over the winter (top right). Mild temps and light wind made for great #hiking weather. Wonderful views at the top in all directions! #mountains #backpacking #WaterfallWednesday

The Asgard Tor at the Granite Tors in the Chena River State Recreation Area near Fairbanks, Alaska. One of my favorite places to hike (or snowshoe) year-round.

A jagged granite tor rises sharply from the rugged terrain of the Granite Tors Trail in Chena River State Recreation Area, near Fairbanks, Alaska. The rock formation, known as Asgard Tor, stands tall against a backdrop of open sky, surrounded by rolling hills and boreal forest. Sunlight casts sharp shadows across the weathered stone, emphasizing its rough texture and dramatic crevices. Patches of lichen and moss cling to the rock’s surface, a testament to the harsh yet resilient alpine environment. The surrounding landscape stretches toward the horizon.

Welp, I did not score early access to the Enchantments or Mt Rainier permits. And you know what that means, it's MAP TIME!

There's still chances for shorter trips at the above areas if I get lucky. But for my long walk, I'm targeting either a loop in the ONP that includes the Grand Valley, Gray Wolf Pass and Mt Deception or the Alpine Lakes high route.

But I have a lot of ideas, and maps.

This was my first view of the #ocean today while #hiking around a peninsula. Outgoing leg was on the side of the peninsula facing the mainland with an expansive marsh in between. Then we cut across the peninsula (seeing this view) and returned on the ocean side. With strong winds and dark overcast, we had the place mostly to ourselves! #CapeCod #beach #SeaScape

Here is a peaceful scene from last week’s #snowshoeing adventure in the White #Mountains of #NewHampshire. I had been snowshoeing for 2.5 hours and had only seen one person. I was completely alone in my thoughts being one with #nature! So wonderful! #FootpathFriday #winter #hiking

After hiking on a local trail this afternoon, I ended the day walking on this beautiful #beach on the #ocean. These sand ripples, exposed as the tide was going out, were some of the many interesting features I saw! #CapeCod #wavy #Seascape

Hiked around this beautiful lake this afternoon in SE Massachusetts. Until recently, it had been frozen completely across and with a layer of snow everywhere. What a difference a few weeks makes! Last night I watched the stars twinkle in the cold and listened to the wind running in the treetops and woke up this morning to a glorious sunrise in Indian heaven wilderness. My tracks were the only sign of humans for miles.

This was my view earlier this week as I began my descent down the mountain and dropped below the tree line. It was much steeper than the pic shows— needed to proceed carefully on my snowshoes. Had to say goodbye to the views of the nearby mountains as I disappeared into the forest! #FootpathFriday #mountains #winter

Beauty was abound when I snowshoed up a mountain earlier this week. While the views at the summit of nearby mountain peaks/valleys were beautiful, so were the small features at my feet. Check out the rime ice that formed on the boulders. This ice forms in windy fog and points into the wind as it is forming. #ice #mountains #lichen

Here is one of the picturesque treats I experienced on my way up to the summit of the mountain yesterday. A gorgeous section of frozen #waterfalls. Most of the 80 feet (24m) tall #waterfall was covered with snow, but this section was not covered, exposing its beauty. #WaterfallWednesday #mountains #hiking

Similar style of material. Macpac uses Polartec® Alpha® Direct & OMM PrimaLoft® ACTIVE. Both ultra-light insulating fabrics made for breathable warmth & pack-ability.

Weigh similar amounts too, 148g (large). I tend to utilize mainly as mid layer under an outer wind-shirt or as pull-on at rest stops.

My new boots have arrived & I'm like a little kid with a new toy!

I wanted a lightweight boot for late spring, early summer multi day treks. Had to be stiff enough to take a C1 crampon as I didn't want to rely on micro-spikes over the terrain I intend to travel (High Pyrenees & Dolomites)

Came across these "La Sportiva Trango Trk GTX's". Very lightweight, only 115 grams/boot more than my summer approach shoes with a semi stiff sole
