In September, a Polish truck carrying a load of British cheese to the Netherlands got stuck in Calais port due to a paperwork issue.

The driver was allowed to drive away with just the tractor unit after THREE MONTHS of being stuck there.

The trailer is still there, plugged into mains electricity.

The paperwork issue has been solved, but the transport cannot continue as the technical inspection of the trailer lapsed and the company went bust.

Simon Tisdall bows out with this conclusion:

'Britain will have to choose. It has kowtowed to the US all our lives & this is where it has got us. Gradual strategic disengagement from America, coupled with renewed integration in a reformed, revitalised Europe, is the only sane, safe path. Stop feeding the monster. He will devour us all'!

Until the transatlanticists wake up from their fever dream we will never revive our flagging country!

The Guardian · Britain has been paying a high price for Uncle Sam’s craziness. It’s time to turn to EuropeBy Simon Tisdall

It is so bleeding obvious that Britain should go back into the European Single Market and Customs Union for economic growth, that it is painful to watch Labour politicians who know better pretend otherwise. The Liberal Democrats and Greens will likely come out first advocating to rejoin Europe with the obvious admission that the world has changed under Trump.

As an American who loves Britain, I implore you not to rely on a one-sided trade deal with Donald Trump.

Well I watched this now. It was hardly a "debate" at all, the only brexit supporters to speak were two Northern Irish MPs and the Tory minister. Everyone else spoke eloquently in favour of strengthening relations with EU either quickly or slowly. However the winding-up statements from the Tory and Labour ministers were deeply disappointing, just repeating their standard positions, with no acknowledgement of the strength of all the arguments they had just heard.

Another consequence of Brexit: The UK can not easily compensate for the hostile trade relationship with the US, because it no longer has easy access to the internal market of the EU. Trump can put the UK under much more pressure. And that really sucks.

To fight these stupid trade wars, we need to stand united. We might not reverse #brexit, but we could work on better (temporary) trade agreements.
