Infoseepage<p>Do you eat deer or elk meet? Yeah, probably shouldn't do that. CWD is absolutely everywhere these days.</p><p><a href="https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/chronic-wasting-disease/cwd-prions-confirmed-raw-cooked-elk-meat-and-water-used-boiling-risk-people" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">cidrap.umn.edu/chronic-wasting</span><span class="invisible">-disease/cwd-prions-confirmed-raw-cooked-elk-meat-and-water-used-boiling-risk-people</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/cwd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cwd</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/maddeerdisease" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>maddeerdisease</span></a></p>
Nonya Bidniss :CIAverified:<p>I get that folks love hunting but frankly, I wouldn't eat deer or elk anymore at all. That's just me. Prions are frightening. It's not known what the risk to humans is with this but prion diseases have extremely long incubation periods. So you might think there's no problem...when there is. </p><p>"Researchers have identified chronic wasting disease (CWD) prions in raw, cooked, and cured meat from an infected elk in Texas, confirming the presence of the infectious CWD-causing agents in muscle but concluding that the risk of transmission to humans through consumption is still unclear and requires continued vigilance.</p><p>Cooking temperatures are well known to be ineffective in disabling CWD prions, which are misfolded cervid (eg, deer, moose, elk) prions, leading to neurologic disease and death. The prions spread among cervids and through environmental contamination. There is no vaccine or treatment for CWD, which has been found in 35 US states, Canada, Norway, Finland, Sweden, and South Korea." <br><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/prions" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>prions</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/InfectiousDisease" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>InfectiousDisease</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/cervids" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cervids</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/CWD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CWD</span></a> <a href="https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/chronic-wasting-disease/cwd-prions-confirmed-raw-cooked-elk-meat-and-water-used-boiling-risk-people" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">cidrap.umn.edu/chronic-wasting</span><span class="invisible">-disease/cwd-prions-confirmed-raw-cooked-elk-meat-and-water-used-boiling-risk-people</span></a></p>
O=C=O<p>Menschen jagen und essen Wild, insofern nehmen Menschen die <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/CWD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CWD</span></a>-<a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Prionen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Prionen</span></a> schon jetzt immer wieder auf. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/BSE" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BSE</span></a> hat gezeigt, dass man sich durch den Verzehr von infizierten Tieren mit tierischen Prionen anstecken kann. Erin Conroy<p>Humans have regressed to the point that most of us have decided to ignore a virulent disease that causes massive health disability &amp; is still killing 5-10,000 people in a month in the US, letting it spread wildly without any controls. (<a href="https://progressives.social/tags/SARSCoV2" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SARSCoV2</span></a>). Even "normal" people who used to care, are fine with this now.</p><p>We're conditioned &amp; numbed not to care about disease spread. Do you really think the CDC &amp; WHO who pretend the ongoing pandemic is no big deal, are going to rouse the public re <a href="https://progressives.social/tags/CWD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CWD</span></a> now?</p>
Erin Conroy<p>Even if they finally did that now (and they should! <a href="https://progressives.social/tags/HarmReduction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HarmReduction</span></a> MATTERS), let's think logically.</p><p><a href="https://progressives.social/tags/CWD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CWD</span></a> is widespread, in wild populations that humans infected, in "the largest biomass of infectious prions in global history."</p><p>It must be burned at 1000 degrees Celsius to destroy it, persists in soil &amp; water for decades.</p><p>Deer go where they want, die where they want, &amp; are eaten by dogs, cats, wild predators, &amp; humans who know nothing about CWD.</p><p>It has an incubation period of about 2 years.</p>
Erin Conroy<p>"Originally confined to Colorado, the new disease soon spread thanks to the legalization of the game ranching industry in the 1980s. That controversial industry rears captive elk or deer in pens for meat, antlers or sport shooting."</p><p>Promoted by politicians such as Alberta premiers Don Getty &amp; Ralph Klein to supposedly diversify agriculture, the captive wildlife industry spread <a href="https://progressives.social/tags/CWD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CWD</span></a> &amp; other diseases...from the US to parts of Alberta &amp; Saskatchewan where wild &amp; escaped captive deer mingled."</p>
Erin Conroy<p>But how did we get here?</p><p>"Chronic wasting disease first erupted at an experimental agricultural station in Colorado in 1967 where scientists were conducting feeding experiments on captive deer. Sheep infected with scrapie, another prion disease, served as the control group."</p><p><a href="https://progressives.social/tags/CWD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CWD</span></a> <a href="https://progressives.social/tags/HumanArrogance" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HumanArrogance</span></a> <a href="https://progressives.social/tags/UnintendedConsequences" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UnintendedConsequences</span></a> of <a href="https://progressives.social/tags/STEM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>STEM</span></a></p>
Erin Conroy<p>"The threat of agricultural trade sanctions are real. Due to a serious <a href="https://progressives.social/tags/CWD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CWD</span></a> outbreak among reindeer, Norway banned imports of hay or straw from any state or province with <a href="https://progressives.social/tags/CWD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CWD</span></a> in 2018.</p><p>“We have been watching CWD spread province to province, state to state for at least 20 years, so this is terrible news for British Columbians,” said Jesse Zeman, Executive Director of the BC Wildlife Federation..."Continued vigilance &amp; testing are key to organizing preventative measures.” (Sound familiar?) <a href="https://progressives.social/tags/COVID" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>COVID</span></a></p>
Erin Conroy<p>"Rowledge estimates that as many as 25,000 hunters are eating contaminated venison every year on the continent. “If people are shown susceptible, it will be chaos, with massive campaigns to slaughter the deer spreading indestructible prions into our food supplies. The world would stop our agricultural exports; it would shut down our economies, &amp; we have no conceivable solutions"</p><p>Some jurisdictions test for <a href="https://progressives.social/tags/CWD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CWD</span></a> in killed deer but others do not. The testing also takes weeks to complete."</p>
Erin Conroy<p>"[<a href="https://progressives.social/tags/CWD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CWD</span></a>] is now the largest biomass of infectious prions in global history &amp; many experts are concerned that a spillover into humans could cause a nightmarish pandemic." </p><p>After experimental transfers of CWD to macaques, Health Canada admits CWD could infect humans.</p><p>CIDRAP summoned 67 global experts to prepare for spillover to farm animals &amp; humans.</p><p>WHO warns no meat that could carry CWD prions should enter the human or animal food chain. COVID shows as a society we will choose not to stop CWD.</p>
Sweet Home Alaberta 🇨🇦 🇺🇦 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️ 🇲🇽<p>MB on high alert as CWD found in BC (Cranbrook) 🦌 ☠️ </p><p>The reason we have CWD in the prairie provinces is because a redneck SK con politician allowed for the importation of diseased elk from Colorado into his redneck buddies game farm near Lloydminster. Look at the map of spread now.</p><p>Neither redneck conservative has paid anything to control the disease, they’re parasites.
