It's also just north of the earthquake's epicentre, & is where the damage will likely be severe & widespread. …disasters are converging…what'll go underreported, no doubt (and to the detriment of the recovery operation), is how mutual aid networks are now going to do so much of the heavy lifting, literal & figurative, given the total absence of a functioning, beneficent state. The same junta now calling for international assistance is the one that maintains blockades on critical aid to war-displaced communities all over the country, that repurposes hospitals as military bases, that is engineering famine in Myanmar's west, & that (among many acts of cruelty) horded oxygen supplies during Covid-19 in order to weaken anti-military mobilising.
