Very interesting.

> Dr Hart has been both acquitted and convicted multiple times for nonviolent direct action linked to the climate crisis

I would be curious to know more about his previous convictions, and whether or not (and if so, how) they influenced sentencing by the judge, and the decision by the GMC to suspend him for 12 months.

I hope he took advice from his medical defence union or similar before this particular act.

I can think of many, many ways he could potentially act that would be wildly more sustainable (forgive my use of the word; I mean merely that they might avoid his being imprisoned), and fantastically more damaging to oil extraction, than his chosen course of action. I lament that no one provided him with more constructive discussion before he embarked on these particular acts.

"The FBI has been investigating a longtime Exxon Mobil consultant over the contractor's alleged role in a hack-and-leak operation that targeted hundreds of the oil company’s biggest critics, according to three people familiar with the matter.
The operation involved mercenary hackers who successfully breached the email accounts of environmental activists and others, the sources told Reuters.

The scheme allegedly began in late 2015, when U.S. authorities contend that the names of the hacking targets were compiled by the DCI Group, a public affairs and lobbying company working for Exxon at the time, one of the sources said. DCI provided the names to an Israeli private detective, who then outsourced the hacking, according to the source.

In an effort to push a narrative that Exxon was the target of a political vendetta aimed at destroying its business, some of the stolen material was subsequently leaked to the media by DCI, Reuters determined. The Federal Bureau of Investigation found that DCI shared the information with Exxon before leaking it, the source said."

#BigOil firms knew of dire effects of #FossilFuels as early as 1950s, memos show

Newly unearthed documents contain warning from head of #AirPollutionFoundation, founded in 1953 by oil interests

"Major oil companies, including #Shell and precursors to energy giants #Chevron, #ExxonMobil and #BP, were alerted about the planet-warming effects of fossil fuels as early as 1954, newly unearthed documents show.

The warning, from the head of an industry-created group known as the Air Pollution Foundation, was revealed by Climate Investigations Center and published Tuesday by the climate website DeSmog. It represents what may be the earliest instance of big oil being informed of the potentially dire consequences of its products.

"'Every time there’s a push for #ClimateAction, [we see] fossil fuel companies downplay and deny the harms of burning fossil fuels,' said Rebecca John, a researcher at the Climate Investigations Center who uncovered the historic memos. 'Now we have evidence they were doing this way back in the 50s during these really early attempts to crack down on sources of pollution.'"

#ExxonMobil says advanced #recycling is the answer to #plastic waste. But is it really?

NO, they are just burning it, while ramping up its virgin plastic production!

UCLA researcher who studied the issue blames misperceptions about plastic recycling on "an industry-backed #misinformation campaign." He agrees that the reality is "having to burn more oil to turn that plastic back into oil, which you then burn."

excellent 👏🏽 “For decades, ExxonMobil has been deceiving the public to convince us that plastic recycling could solve the plastic waste and pollution crisis when they clearly knew this wasn’t possible,” Bonta said in a statement.

The Guardian · California sues ExxonMobil over alleged role in plastic pollution crisisBy Dharna Noor

A former employee of #Microsoft speaks up about the company’s hypocrisy. Although Microsoft committed to fight #climateChange, amongst others by the usage of #AI, it sells this very same technology and custom applications and infrastructure based on it to #fossilFuel companies like #Shell, #ExxonMobil, #Chevron or #Halliburton

Even #Google refuses to build custom applications that would support the #oilIndustry !!
