It can be hard to find a different angle to capture well-photographed landmarks. This is my attempt at doing so for one of the Kelpies, a pair of 30 metre high sculptures which mark the eastern end of the Forth and Clyde Canal.
Today we went to see the Kelpies - they're absolutely massive! I don't think my Little Brother was very impressed with them, though.

This is the Falkirk Tunnel. Carved out of solid rock in the 1820s, at 630 metres long it's Scotland's longest canal tunnel. Before Scotland's first intercity train line opened between Glasgow and Edinburgh in 1842, the quickest way to get between these two cities was using the Swifts. These were canal boats pulled by teams of horses that could get you from Edinburgh to Glasgow in less than 8 hours and involved passing through this tunnel.

Engineering at its most magnificent. The unique and uniquely beautiful Falkirk Wheel rotary boat lift opened in 2002. It fulfils a role originally accomplished by a flight of 11 locks when the Union Canal opened in 1822. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/falkirk/falkirkwheel/index.html
Overlooking the Museum of Scottish Railways - Bo’ness.
Absolutely worth a visit & unlike most museums, their souvenir selection (although small) is extremely affordable!
Definitely worth checking out and supporting the lovely exhibitions. Kids under 16 go free! #museum #scotland #falkirk #history #uk #transport #rails #trains #transit

The mysterious Torwood Blue Pool near Denny. This circular brick structure is full of remarkably blue water and its origin and purpose continue to be debated, though it was probably an air shaft for a coal mine that closed in 1910. The magnificent 30m high Kelpies, the world's largest equine sculptures, created in 2013 by Andy Scott and standing close to the Forth and Clyde Canal and the M9 motorway on the edge of Grangemouth. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/falkirk/kelpies/index.html

Just got off the Falkirk Wheel and it's a great experience on an incredible bit of engineering. We were taken up, piloted along the aqueduct, turned around, and came back the same way. Smooth ride, barely even notice you're being lifted or lowered.
Heading back towards #Greenock through #Glasgow and we've got a sea day tomorrow before we reach the Shetlands.
We're in #Scotland today, docked at #Greenock for those who want to explore there or travel further along the Clyde to #Glasgow. However, we have opted to head inland and made it to #Stirling where we've looked around the #castle before ensconcing ourselves in a pub. We're off to #Falkirk next to ride on its engineering marvel, the Falkirk Wheel.
Rough Castle Roman Fort, on one of the best preserved stretches of the Antonine Wall near Falkirk. It's a great place to appreciate what the wall was like: and, just possibly, was the origin of the story of King Arthur’s Camelot.
