The #Trump admin is trying to deport *another* student, 21-yr-old #YunseoChung, a legal permanent resident, under the statute authorizing Secy of State #MarcoRubio to remove people deemed threat. She's lived here since childhood.

Chung wasn’t a leader or heavily involved in the protest movement, she only attended a few.

The #US is seeking to deport a person w/a #GreenCard since she was a child because she went to a #protest.

Yunseo Chung moved to the United States with her family from South Korea when she was 7 years old and was valedictorian of her high school.
Pursuant to the Policy, and consistent with remarks made by Secretary Rubio and by law enforcement agents who recently arrested another student at Columbia University,? Secretary Rubio purportedly made such a determination as to Ms. Chung ("the Rubio Determination"'). This determination was based on Ms. Chung's actual and perceived lawful activity protected by the First Amendment: participation in protests and statements regarding Palestine, Israel, and discipline of student protestors on campus. Pursuant to the Rubio Determination, ICE, a component of DHS, seeks to arrest Ms. Chung, detain her, and place her in removal proceedings, presumably to South Korea. Ms. Chung is now at active risk of being put in immigration detention and deported from the only country she has ever known.

The three Cornell plaintiffs argue they’ve been “unconstitutionally silenced.” Last year, Momodou Taal, a British and Ghanaian national, was twice suspended for his activism by Cornell, which moved to cancel his student visa but ultimately backed down. Taal says law enforcement agents started following him around after he filed his lawsuit earlier this week. Supporters at Cornell mobilized Thursday to demand “hands off Momodou!” Last month, Taal told Democracy Now! why he would never stop advocating for Palestinian rights. The arrest of #BadarSuri, #Trump’s #DHS claimed Suri was spreading“Hamas propaganda,”arrested & sent him to a Louisiana detention center. Suri is a LEGAL resident of Virginia married to a full US citizen of Palestinian heritage.

This matter comes before the Court on Petitioner Badar Khan Suri's Petition for Writ of HabeasCorpus, which was filed on March 18, 2025. According to the Petition, on March 17, 2025, the DHS arrested & charged Petitioner w/removability, pursuant to 8 U.S.C. § 1227(a)(4)(C). At the time of filing, Petitioner alleged that he was presently being detained at the Farmville Detention Center in Farmville, Virginia. Pursuant to the Court's authority to preserve its jurisdiction under the All Writs Act, pending a ruling on the Petition, it is hereby ORDERED that Petitioner shall not be removed from the United States unless & until the Court issues a contrary order.…

#Biden’s stance is more nuanced, more difficult to explain to a mass audience. He supports #peaceful #protests consistent w/ the #FirstAmendment, but not #demonstrations that result in vandalism, trespassing & other #crimes.

Like the #protesters, Biden believes that #Israel has inflicted too much carnage in #Gaza. Unlike some of them, he defends Israel’s sovereignty & recoils at the notion of Jews losing a homeland.
