So the thing is, who wants to emulate an emulation platform when you can just emulate the things that IT emulates directly?

That's a valid point, and it could be a big part of why no one has done it (again,AFAIK).

There are some great original games though that I don't think have been ported to anything modern. Most notably, anything by "Ruckage" (Ruckman, Blingo, Sleuthslots). Also things like Boomshine2x, Blastriot, Vektar, , Darklight Battles, and several others.

I find it one of the great tragedies of the retrocomputing scene that as far as I can tell, no GP2X emulators or FPGA cores exist.

Maybe it's too niche.

Most likely, it's just a case of the people that could create such a thing aren't motivated to do it, or haven't experienced the platform in such a way as to understand it's worth.

It tends to be thought of as an emulation platform itself, and it IS that, though there are tons of more powerful ones around these days...

#introduction
I've been a #pcgamer since the days of "640KB is enough for anyone." Prior to that I had used a #Dragon32 (Cuthbert for ever!)
TV based console-wise I've only had two - #Dreamcast and #Wii. Handhelds have hardly been more present, a #GP2X device - my first introduction to handheld emulation devices (I have almost all the commerical titles too), then a #PSP, and lastly a #SteamDeck which neatly coalesces all three groups of device (PC, Handheld and TV console.)
