#Turbostat Utility Bumps 1024 #CPU Core Limit To 8192 Cores After #HPE Breaches It With a 1152 Core unnamed system.
We currently aren't aware of any server CPU configurations that can exceed this limit (in terms of physical cores), so this may be a custom or next-generation solution from #Intel or #AMD. The utility currently only supports #x86 processors, which seemingly rules out an Arm system from causing the issue.

Critical #AMI #MegaRAC bug can let attackers hijack, brick #servers
MegaRAC #BMC provides "lights-out" and "out-of-band" remote system management capabilities that help admins troubleshoot servers as if they were physically in front of the devices. The firmware is used by over a dozen #server vendors that provide equipment to many cloud service and #datacenter providers, including #HPE, #Asus, #ASRock, and others.

BleepingComputer · Critical AMI MegaRAC bug can let attackers hijack, brick serversBy Sergiu Gatlan

This morning, my client managed to solve the issue with the runaway fans on the HP server.

To keep it short: after yet another request to install Ubuntu with a RedHat-compatible kernel (!!!), the client escalated the issue to a higher level. It was denied because they "hadn't followed the lower-level instructions."

They waited for the ticket to close by itself (3 days), then opened a new one. This time, the person who responded was (more) competent. I didn't read the exchanges, but in short, some machines from this series had a different sensor, and for some reason, at certain temperatures, it doesn't provide reliable results. For these machines, there's a specific firmware that needs to be installed via iLO, which they provided. After installing the firmware, everything was resolved.

I'm glad it got fixed, but I'm left with a bitter taste.

#AWS now renting monster #HPE #servers, even in clusters of 7,680-vCPUs and 128TB: Compute Scale-up Server 3200.
#Superdome persists as an architecture that allows modular scaling and memory pooling – if you use the right HPE servers – not the sort of trick AWS's commodity servers can perform. Installing the HPE servers solves both problems – it's well and truly ready for #SAP and is the same hardware HPE offers on-prem.

@flexion I'm really jealous

I wished someone would claw the #sgi brand from #HPE's hands or at least do a #brand & #design licensing deal to remanufacture the classic #SiliconGraphics case designs but for modern mainboard form factors.

Seriously, I'm shure there's some warehouse with the molds for those plastic cases or at the very least the geometry and design stuff...

Hewlett Packard Enterprise's $14 billion acquisition of Juniper Networks has been approved by the U.K.'s Competition and Markets Authority, meaning it won't face further scrutiny. This decision follows the EU's earlier approval of the deal. The merger is now on track to close by early 2025, barring any intervention from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.
