A question for my friends who are #trans and/or #menopausal and/or anyone dealing with hormones, #hrt and related supplements. I’m preparing an opt out post on data sovereign period trackers for those who menstruate and would like to include ideas for hormone tracking too. Which apps or systems do you use? What is needed in this space?

Comments or DMs welcome. This post will be deleted in a few days to ensure safety.

(Edit: A note that I appreciate and fully respect that trans people and menopausal people are often (although not always) members of very different groups and I do not wish to confuse populations or identities. In this instance I just want to reach anyone whose everyday expertise requires careful, expert, or experimental management of synthetic or bioidentical hormones. My apologies in advance if this causes any confusion or concern. ❤️)

Casual reminder to talk to normal people about DIY-HRT.

The fact that it has become the de-facto standard for transgender healthcare around the world is a scandal and most people will see it that way, once they get a grasp of what is going on. Keep in mind that most cis people have no clue about anything related to trans people and that ignorance is
very much not the same as malice.

And by telling them about DIY-HRT, I actually mean the full story: Online-pharmacies, homebrewers, bathtub-estrogen and how massively they differ in price. (A collegue of mine went from “I would never mix my own medication” to “I would totally mix my own medication” upon me mentioning that I was spending ≈100€ per month on pharmaceutical grade medication at the time). Explain how mixing works and why we are so confident in the quality that homebrewers produce (independent tests!). Mention that gel is primarily hand-sanitizer, so that even if they were to work in unhygenic matters, the result would still be estrogen-infused hand-sanitizer!

Talk about how stupidly low the regret rates are and that most effects reverse on their own if you really came to regret them. Be open, direct and keep refering to it as the de-facto standard of treatment. Make it clear why it is necessary, safe and widespread.

People who are somewhat open-minded can be convinced! And they will afterwards know how awful the hellcare systems around the world treat us and might mention it to others or argue in our favor. Keep in mind that we (trans people) are like 1% of the population, we
need allies! And our allies need to know what we need and what our situation is!

The one caveat I will add: Talking to jornos and right-wingers is a different story, as many of them are malicious actors and will frame things in harmful ways, if given the chance!

For the folks that work estrogen and more so implants or injectables, does one find energy levels seem to change greatly whenever E levels are on the lower side?

From my experience I get this but it's so extreme atm. I got about a month before I do my implants again and I actually get close to a year these days but god I don't think I ever been so tired in my life 😭

I guess it's normal? Or something something I'm old

@dankeykang FWIW, my understanding is, most people's #ADHD symptoms improve on #RightHormones, but it's not uncommon for it to go the other way, either. The only solid rule of thumb is, you might need your dose adjusted, upward or downward, when starting #HRT while you're on #ADHD medicine.

After all, Biology Is Messy, And Sometimes There's Exceptions. (Virtually every rule in biology has some, only those that come directly from physics, such as the laws of thermodynamics, being excepted.)

PSA for trans people who inject hormones:

if you haven't seen, there are simulators which can show you the outcomes of injecting on different schedules.

if you're on estrogen HRT, check these out:

if you're on testosterone HRT, these each have a bunch of testosterone esters available:

Im in a weird stage of my transition. For the first time in over a year after starting #HRT , my boobs are growing!!! My figure is WAY more femme now. SO much euphoria honestly.

But also? It feels like a very tense time to be visibly #trans, and I honestly thought id be better at being visible by now. But ive not had the chance given how slow its been.

The snide looks and stuff are gonna take some adjusting to. Things just feel less safe than they used to. Mixed complicated feelings!

The classic, "Sorry we don't have Zumenon (Estradiol hemihydrate) in stock", followed by the "It doesn't work like that", when I ask if they have Progynova (Estradiol Valerate) in stock, since I can have either on my script.

Then after consistent pushing, they reluctantly check if they can do it, and then ask if I've had Progynova before. Of course the answer is yes. I know what I'm doing, and my doctor has told me I can have both. I've had this conversation more than once before...

Long story short there's a possibility that I end up in #Malaysia in a couple of years.

My problem:
Can I get testosterone and even maybe #trans care at a private clinic?
I know public hospitals are out of the question.

Also I haven't legally changed my gender so I don't know if "as a woman" I can get #testosterone for "menopause issues"?

Boost won't change your life but it will help mine and in a world full of transphobes it does make a difference.🙏

Possibly useful #menopause related article for anyone in possession of a minge:

I'm on #HRT because my mental health plummeted with menopause - something else people aren't aware can happen; I got bad suicidal ideation - but honestly, the physical symptoms some people go through are so horrific I'll take the headweasels, thank you. A friend has been talking about this one on FB and a number of other cis women have said 'yeah, same' so this condition isn't rare. And the repeated UTIs as a result of tissue thinning in much older cis women can affect cognition; I saw it in my own grandmother, who could appear dotty when what she needed was antibiotics.
