OK folks, I’m on the hunt for a better #mastodon #iOS client yet again 🤦‍♀️ so would appreciate your #recs

#boost4reach pls 🙏

apps I’ve previously tried & rejected / annoy me for various reasons:

  • Ice Cubes: my current “least bad” option but parts of the UX are unfathomable to me (e.g. a special “select text” mode that allows you to select text from a toot rather than just letting you… select the text that’s already visible) 🤪 no option to display toots in the notification list the same way they are in any other feed view, they’re always tiny w/ tiny images (this is common across most apps, but I use post notifications as my primary “seeing what ppl I find most interesting are up to” feed so it’s a real grinch for me), supports markdown when displaying toots, but strips all markdown if you need to edit a toot… 🤦‍♀️
  • web app on mobile browser: lots of reasons, some of which are to do with my browser security choices (I will not be taking any questions on this choice)
  • Toot! I love this app for its whimsy & cute UI, but it hasn’t been updated in ~2 years & is ∴ missing support for some recent features & likely riddled w/ security vulns, no markdown support 😥 one of the very few apps that display toots in the notification list the same way they are in any other feed view 💕 (if you know the Toot! dev, pls tell them I will happily throw $$ & contributions / effort at them to help get it up-to-date & maintained)
  • Ivory: buggy since a recent update (doesn’t fetch older mentions nor cache the recent mentions it does fetch 🤦‍♀️), plus a long-standing annoyance at the way they implement in-app filtering w/ no ability to edit the built-in masto filters, and I find the options they offer for notification filtering / dispos display to be too inflexible, no markdown support 🤦‍♀️ no option to display toots in the notification list the same way they are in any other feed view 😕
  • Mona: can’t recall why, but it never clicked w/ me during the trial & the non-paid version is too feature-limited for me to work out if it’s worth paying the $20 / $30 paid options, no markdown support (if this is your strong #rec, pls let me know what the “killer features” are for you 🙏
  • Mastodon: pretty basic, probably an acceptable option if it offered a bit more customisation, no markdown support

so… is there anything left (that’s good)? 🤔

#boost4reach pls 🙏

It’s taken me a few tries to get into @Iconfactory’s Tapestry app, but I am quite enjoying it now. The gang on @TWiT love it so I thought I’d give it another go. Previously, I’d thought of it as a Mastodon/Bluesky combined app. Which it is… but it’s also more than that. It’s a bit more similar to @feeeed or Reeder, as you can add just about any feed you want to it. After a bit of setup, it becomes quite powerful.

Gave @Iconfactory Tapestry a test run today and decided to pay the monthly fee for all the premium features. This is an amazing app that helps me stay offline and not get caught in a doom scroll of other news. I can read my own feeds and go on with my day. Thanks to the team of developers 👍

This is fun: I did a new self-portrait for my lock screen (along with my email, in case I leave it somewhere), and iOS automagically tucks the time display in behind my hair. :)

I've also been making a short vid about how to add a longer alphanumeric password, and noticed that the screen recording tool hides the keypad and stand-in characters (circles) as you're putting it in, so it doesn't even show how long the code is. Couple of cool little features!
