Trump has now floated the idea of paying #reparations to the #Jan6 insurrectionists.

This underscores the fact that Trump has not really pardoned the #J6 convicts so much as he has absolved them of all culpability. IOW, there was no criminality here. Very legal, very cool patriotism only.

Most recently, he served in the #DOJ's Capitol Siege Section, which prosecuted >1,500 people for crimes stemming from the #Jan6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol [all of whom were pardoned by #felon47].

That [gem of a] legal argument popped up in one of the few major court cases against #Trump that have continued since he assumed the presidency & still threaten his bank account — one in which cops & legislators are trying to hold him personally accountable for the damage his followers caused when they stormed the Capitol on #Jan6, 2021.

#PamBondi supported #Trump’s mass #pardons for thousands of his supporters who violently ransacked the US Capitol, including some who assaulted police officers. The #FBI described those involved in the planning & perpetration of that attack as “domestic violent extremists,” whom they had previously identified in threat assessments.

But Trump’s assertion, which embraced a baseless #FarRight #ConspiracyTheory about #Biden, was a new escalation of his antidemocratic rhetoric.
