Koen de Jonge - SynQ<p>updated mastodon to v4.3.7 <a href="https://procolix.social/tags/mastoadmin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mastoadmin</span></a></p>
Paul Chambers🚧<p>We need an option in <a href="https://oldfriends.live/tags/MastoAdmin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MastoAdmin</span></a> settings to check for open registration instances and automatically limit them. <a href="https://oldfriends.live/tags/Spam" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Spam</span></a> Of course, the big dog instances like Mastodon.Social wouldn't like this.</p><p>Has anyone made a script yet that canvases Fediverse instances, esp Mastodon, for open registrations so we either automatically moderate them or can create and import a blocklist with them limited? <a href="https://oldfriends.live/tags/Fediblock" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fediblock</span></a></p>
Mastodon Engineering<p>We just released Mastodon 4.3.7 and 4.2.20 and 4.1.25. They contain a few minor bug fixes.</p><p>Note that this will most likely be the last Mastodon 4.1 release, and 4.1 will be unsupported in 6 days, so we highly advise you to update if you run it.</p><p>Full release notes and update instructions are available on our GitHub release page: <a href="https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/releases/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/mastodon/mastodon/r</span><span class="invisible">eleases/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/mastoadmin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mastoadmin</span></a></p>

Johan Empa<p>Okay, there was a little April fools joke hidden inside this tread 😁 There's no de-federation planned for 1 July 2025.</p><p>Tried to be a bit funny with the poll by not including any real "no" option, but then again, should "no built-in climate action" be an option anywhere these days?</p><p>That said, the poll is useful as it is. Thank you for voting in it. Most people voted with a strong "yes", followed by "💯 🎯". </p><p>6/5 <a href="https://mastodon.green/tags/MastodonGreen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MastodonGreen</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.green/tags/mastoadmin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mastoadmin</span></a></p>
Paul Chambers🚧<p>Any <a href="https://oldfriends.live/tags/MastoAdmin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MastoAdmin</span></a> with <a href="https://oldfriends.live/tags/DigitalOcean" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DigitalOcean</span></a> notice a lot of sidekiq errors overnight "Seahorse::Client::NetworkingError: Failed to open TCP connection to nyc3.digitaloceanspaces.com:443 (execution expired)" I'm at several thousand now.</p><p>Started out of the blue. I only noticed because images we're staying blurred for a while. Even when images unblurred, any video coming in was staying blurred with the link to the original post at the sending instance.</p><p>For a long time, I already had S3_OPEN_TIMEOUT and S3_READ_TIMEOUT increased.</p><p>It seems to be tampering off now, although videos seem to have an issue being blurred.</p>
Johan Empa<p>Now is the time to take a principled stand for a greener social web! Now is the time for climate action.</p><p>I'm hereby giving three months notice before de-federating Mastodon.green from non-tree-planting fediverse servers, i.e. those who hasn't announced a credible plan to adopt the Green Fediverse Protocol by 1&nbsp;July 2025.</p><p>This will only apply to servers with income, such as mastodon.social, pixelfed.social, tchncs.de, flipboard.com, chaos.social etc.</p><p>4/n <a href="https://mastodon.green/tags/MastodonGreen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MastodonGreen</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.green/tags/Mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mastodon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.green/tags/mastoadmin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mastoadmin</span></a></p>
Michael<p>Over the last 24 or so hours I've been subject to a harassment campaign where people have encouraged me to kill myself, and/or called me racist and homophobic slurs, and/or accused me of pedophilia.</p><p>Most of the abuse came from a small number of instances:</p><p>nicecrew[.]digital<br>shit[.]poster[.]place<br>parcero[.]casa</p><p>(The last one actually has multiple abusive instances under multiple two-letter-subdomains - I recommend blocking the apex.)</p><p>As these instances are all dedicated to 'free speech’, 'satire’, or ‘shit-posting’ (as we all know these terms are all synonymous with abuse) I would recommend a fediblock on these instances, if you don't already block them.</p><p>(If anyone is curious: This all started because someone spread the rumour that FediFetcher doesn't respect robots.txt. A rumour that's false: FediFetcher does respect robots.txt.)</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.thms.uk/tags/mastoadmin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mastoadmin</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.thms.uk/tags/fediblock" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fediblock</span></a></p>

Michael<p>I have a report in my mastodon moderation interface. </p><p>Rather than just suspend the user in question, I want to suspend the instance as a whole. Is there no built-in way of achieving this, other than to copy the instance name, and paste it in the federation interface?!</p><p>Please tell me I’m missing something, as that seems very stupid…</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.thms.uk/tags/mastoadmin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mastoadmin</span></a></p>

David Carroll<p>Rant: Bluesky is now 30 minutes ahead of realtime news on Xitter and I’m still wasting time nuking the same old Nicole fediverse chick spam. There are reasons this platform isn’t the one that matters most. <a href="https://federate.social/tags/mastoadmin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mastoadmin</span></a></p>
gul dukat hater<p>I don’t really know how to make scraper block lists besides doing it manually in nginx which is sorta tedious. Is there a way we could crowdsource stuff together as admins? Or anything y’all are doing that makes it easier? <a href="https://meemu.org/tags/mastoAdmin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mastoAdmin</span></a></p>

Made the switch from <a href="https://mastodon.jannis-goeing.de/tags/apache" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>apache</span></a> today. I did not expect such a huge difference in speed 😲 Especially for Mastodon, refreshing my feed or a profile is multiple multiple times faster, it's basically instant now 🤯</p><p>Should've made the switch way sooner, esp because the config is so much easier.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.jannis-goeing.de/tags/mastoadmin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mastoadmin</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.jannis-goeing.de/tags/reverseproxy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>reverseproxy</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.jannis-goeing.de/tags/homelab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homelab</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.jannis-goeing.de/tags/selfhost" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>selfhost</span></a></p>
Matt Knight<p>An obvious yet appreciated side effect of now self-hosting Mastodon at home is that while I’m at home, it’s lightning fast. Latency is in single digit milliseconds because content is being fed to me from about 20ft away. Not that it was slow before, but I still think this is pretty cool.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.knight.fyi/tags/mastoadmin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mastoadmin</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.knight.fyi/tags/selfhosted" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>selfhosted</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.knight.fyi/tags/homelab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homelab</span></a></p>
