Vivienne Dunstan<p>Watching a recorded Treadwells bookshop talk about the Mithras cult in London. And remembering the fairly recent find of an altar to Mithras at Inveresk in Scotland. Many pics viewable in free to read supplementary material for the paywall-locked journal article. <a href="https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/britannia/article/abs/mithras-in-scotland-a-mithraeum-at-inveresk-east-lothian/544B6233F7F06415EE049C60A827C3C0#supplementary-materials" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">cambridge.org/core/journals/br</span><span class="invisible">itannia/article/abs/mithras-in-scotland-a-mithraeum-at-inveresk-east-lothian/544B6233F7F06415EE049C60A827C3C0#supplementary-materials</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Mithras" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mithras</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/RomanBritain" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RomanBritain</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/AncientRome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AncientRome</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Scotland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Scotland</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/EastLothian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EastLothian</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Inveresk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Inveresk</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Archaeology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Archaeology</span></a></p>

Christina Dongowski<p>Today, it’s a holiday in Germany (Re-Unification Day), and me &amp; my partner are going for a hike to the ruins of a Roman villa rustica &amp; their mithraeum. Last night, I read a bit about the cult of <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Mithras" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mithras</span></a>, and I find it endlessly fascinating, that such a big cult in its heyday could have vanished so utterly that it had to be rediscovered in the 19th century. And that we still don’t know a lot about it &amp; probably still don’t have a good idea how these cult religions worked anyway,</p>

A Part of Bee<p>At the Temple of Mithras, Carrawburgh (near Hadrian's Wall) it was damp but worth the wander through the sheep fields, interesting to see it still collecting offerings. <a href="https://loci.onl/tags/Mithras" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mithras</span></a> <a href="https://loci.onl/tags/Roman" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Roman</span></a> <a href="https://loci.onl/tags/Pagan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Pagan</span></a></p>
