That explains how two guys were able to make a game like that. Just used Hypercard as the engine.

Well, nothing is on fire, and all the capture cards are finally working, soooooo.

We'll be streaming Menage-A-Myst - Myst played on three generations of hardware:

1993 Myst on a Powerbook 3400c
2002 realMyst on a Dual Proc PowerMac G4.
2022 Myst on a Modern AMD PC.

Captured on original hardware and lovingly hand mixed in OBS, with just a twist of lemon and fire. NO FIRE.

We're playing til we finish.

once a year i pull out this wondrous history of myst/riven coffee table book for inspiration. each page is a work of art.

Huh, in all the years I've had Mylk, a fan game ("conceitware") of Myst released all the way back in 1994, I never noticed this line on the about screen: "Myst and all Myst sounds Copyright 1993 by Cyan, inc. and used here with permission."

So, Cyan not only knew this existed, but sanctioned it? Ha. I guess they were... mooved.

Today's entry in the YouTube #Myst rabbit hole is a video essay about the design philosophy of the original game vs. the trend of changes being made in subsequent remakes by #Cyan. I don't know if I agree 100% but there's some interesting stuff here about the original's surrealist, magical aesthetics vs. later attempts to "rationalize" i.e. explain away those elements as much as possible. This is supposed to be the first video in a three part series.
