A deep blue sky with puffy white clouds. Standing on the edge of a forest beside a pond covered with dozens of lily pads turning yellow with autumn. The shoreline in front of us is covered with tall water grasses and ferns also turning yellow and gold. The sun is backlighting the leaves on the tree limbs above us, giving many of them a golden glow though they have not started to turn yet. A single maple directly in front of us does sport autumn foliage in vivid red and gold.

The bodies were in a Ukrainian #morgue as a result of an exchange between #Ukraine and #Russia, but were not identified as the missing Americans until #October — this according to the R.T. Weatherman Foundation, the #NGO helping facilitate the identification and return for the #bodies.

Top of the abandoned quarry, West Rock Ridge State Park, Woodbridge, Connecticut. October 31, 2024, 1:17 PM.

A deep robin's egg blue sky with streaks and swirls of delicate haze and a few fair weather clouds. Walking along the edge of a plateau, the top of towering, near vertical cliffs of dark gray stone to our left. The ground atop the cliffs is covered with patches of tall grass and ground-hugging shrubs and the occasional small tree. A few feet in a mixed forest of hardwoods and red cedars begins. A large, rather shallow looking pond dominates the view of a valley a few hundred feet below. The pond is turning to marsh around its edges, clusters of aquatic plants. The open water is speckled with hundreds of lily pads. The remainder of the valley is mostly wooded, with small clusters of houses around the pond and along several roads crossing and running through the valley. All the flora is going dormant: golden brown grasses, almost leafless shrubs and hardwoods that have lost all their leaves or whose foliage has turned brunt orange, brick red or golden brown. Only the dusky cedars remain green.

The photo shows an afternoon autumn forest. The forest floor is covered entirely with a rusty-brown carpet of autumn leaves with the large trunks of beech trees growing out of it. In the upper right of the frame are the intensely golden-yellow leaves of the further beech trees that grow below. The central part of the frame's background is a large limestone rock going down the slope, partially covered with moss and young trees.

Looking across autumn treetops, Right Knee, Sleeping Giant State Park, Hamden, Connecticut. October 8, 2024, 2:45 PM.

A deep blue sky filled with billowing white fair weather clouds and swirls of haze reflecting bright sunshine. Walking along craggy cliffs of dark gray and reddish brown rock speckled with light gray lichen. To our right is a drop of a couple hundred feet to an unseen valley floor below. A rounded peak rises just across that valley. Small shrubs - now leafless - grow through some of the many cracks in the rock of our cliff. Not far ahead a small spruce shrub grows right next to the edge of the cliff. A mature tree with yellow and bright green autumn foliage is beside it, a few feet from the edge. The valley below and the wooded peak rising from it are heavily wooded, sporting foliage of yellow, gold, orange, brick red and bright green mixed with a few dusky green pines and cedars.

"Grin and Scare It" teableau for 10/30/24

A Halloween tea tableau in orange & black with a jack- o- lantern theme. There's a large pumpkin with a leering metalwork face upon it, a sparkly black tea cozy with happy faced pumpkins scattered across, a mug mat with scary pumpkins, an Yixing clay miniature teapot in the shape of a pumpkin with trailing vines, a gleaming pre-war Nippon (Japan) peach lustreware cup & saucer, a flowered square orange tin of Orange Spice black tea, with everything resting upon a black tea towel patterned in candy corn.

Another view from the drive- I took multiple shots of dark animals contrasting with the white/silver background- with varying success... this wasn't the crispest contrast, but a nice mood...
