Blake Patterson<p>iOS has shown itself to be such a terrible game platform as far as being able to purchase a game and enjoy it for years. Various barriers due to the changing OS (the first mass extinction was no 32-bit apps, years back (which was unnecessary), but it wasn't the last) have left basically no title from the early days of the AppStore still viable. </p><p>I've cursed Apple for this many times before, but this morning I am lamenting the absence of the superb Vectrex Regeneration -- a Vectrex emulator targeting the iPad. What a great experience that was. </p><p><a href="https://toucharcade.com/2012/11/28/vectrex-regeneration-review-ios-gains-a-new-old-platform/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">toucharcade.com/2012/11/28/vec</span><span class="invisible">trex-regeneration-review-ios-gains-a-new-old-platform/</span></a></p><p>( My TouchArcade review from 2012 )</p><p><a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/Vectrex" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Vectrex</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/VectrexRegeneration" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>VectrexRegeneration</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/iPad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>iPad</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/iPadOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>iPadOS</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/iOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>iOS</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/gaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gaming</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/retrogaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrogaming</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/retrogames" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrogames</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/vintagecomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vintagecomputing</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/retrocomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrocomputing</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/AppStore" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AppStore</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/video" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>video</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/review" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>review</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/games" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>games</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/gamers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gamers</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/gaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gaming</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/RantmediaGames" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RantmediaGames</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/GCE" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GCE</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/TouchArcade" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TouchArcade</span></a></p>

jbz<p>「 Solaris 2.1 for x86, also known as SunOS 5.1, was Sun’s first entry into the PC market (technically it was SunSoft, a subsidiary of Sun Microsystems, who released Solaris). @haitchfive<p>While I appreciate the craft and the delight of reviving apps, games, and platforms past to make them survive standing on top of new technology, I don't believe that helping grow the codebase available to web browsers (increasingly meaning: Google Chrome) is in our best interest.</p><p>Retrofitting the web, modern applications, and knowledge to the old and retrofuture platforms is the more interesting, less tainted, alternative, and potentially beneficial direction. </p><p>One approach points in the direction of giving powerful platforms more power. The other, alternative approach gives powerful platforms less power, and it gives "lesser" platforms more of it. And in the process, with a little work and a little hope, maybe fewer of the things we got wrong.</p><p>In my opinion.</p><p><a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/retrofuture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrofuture</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/retrocomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrocomputing</span></a></p>
