Rodney Brooks on the problem(s) with humanoid robots. So yeah sure Tesla is going to solve this, in a year? OR then deliver robots that you need to stay very well clear of when they are walking around…
You look at this Boston Dynamics video differently after reading the quote.
While impressive, Atlas is still essentially bruteforcing bipedal walking.

#ElonMusk is out here predicting that #Tesla's vaporware Optimus robot will be "the biggest product of any kind of all time." 10 times bigger than any other product ever made by any other company.
Last I checked the Optimus demo a few months ago was so obviously staged/faked that the stock crashed like 10% immediately.
This is what happens when each floor of the pyramid needs to be larger than the last one...
Researchers are rushing to build AI-powered robots. But will they work?
From @npr: "There are few parts of science and engineering that have a larger gap between expectation and reality than robotics."
A bigger splash. Steel wire and home made vibrator motor, controlled with electronics designed by me.

Oh wow. After seeing this, I feel even more validated in my choice of PhD topic!
This video perfectly illustrates a common failure in multi-agent pathfinding (MAPF): local optimization without global coordination. These robots (likely in a warehouse) are stuck in a deadlock, each trying to avoid the other, but their decentralized decision-making leaves them trapped in a loop.

Hmmm.... is this how The Terminator looked before they got a bit more sophisticated?
Sometimes the combination of artificial intelligence and robotics fills me with a little low level dread. But hey, it all be fine, Terminator was *just* a film, right....
My son's robotics team has secured a spot in the PA state championship. We are headed there this weekend. His team has worked so hard this year and has done an amazing job. They deserve to do very well this weekend. But you never know when electronics are involved. #robotics #ftc #firsttechchallenge

Can anyone help me with designing a control board for a #hexapod ?
Got 18xMG996 servos and the original idea was to use 2xPCA9685PW boards to distribute the power load, but it didn't work out

What would you love to know about evolving #robot brains and bodies?
Later this season, I'll be chatting to Prof. Emma Hart from Edinburgh Napier University about algorithms that 'evolve' better robot designs and control systems.
Send me your questions for Emma in the comments below or on the Robot Talk website: robottalk.org/ask-a-question/
This is peripherally inspired by watching #KaiCenat allowing his humanoid robot get bullied. It stuck with me.
