Fascinating world of ancient #glass: A #Roman glass model of a #boat, dating 2nd c. AD. It was found in St. Aldegund in a 4th-century woman's grave. Six of such boats are known. We don't know their function: Were they used as women's urinals, as components of water clocks and sundials, as drinking cups?

An absolutely stunning photo! The 35m-long #Roman shipwreck, along with its cargo of 6,000 (!) amphorae was discovered in 2019 off the coast of the Greek Island of Kefalonia.
It’s one of the largest Roman shipwrecks found in the Mediterranean.

how could we possibly know the ancient Romans said it like this?! well, it's simple! they were truly more advanced than many medieval european civs in many ways, which included leaving a lot of texts. someof the texts give VERY precise examples of how they spoke, how words were pronounced, etcetera. pretty neat, right?!

@MissingThePt #Tesla will soon be offering signed photos of #Musk in an SS uniform doing the #Roman salute (aka #nazi salute). For only 300 more, he will be wearing the traditional moustache like you know whom...

People will also be able to order swastikas and all sorts of nazi memorabilia to use in their #Swasticars.

For the ultimate experience (800 more), the car will shout Nein Nein when the driver in front of you doesn't move fast enough at the traffic lights.

🔴 **Slavery, Prosperity, and Inequality in Roman Pompeii**

_“These narratives can be seen to form two sides to the same coin, as Pompeii’s prosperity was created in large part thanks to slave labour. The connection is supported by constructing a probabilistic model, which suggests some 6 million sesterces (HS) flowed every year to Pompeii’s masters through their exploitation of slaves. Slave owning probably formed the largest single income source for the urban economy.”_

We Finally Know Why Ancient #Roman #Concrete Was So Durable
The properties of this concrete have generally been attributed to its ingredients: pozzolana, a mix of volcanic ash, and lime. When mixed with water, materials can react to produce strong concrete. Roman concrete was probably made by mixing quicklime directly with pozzolana and water at extremely high temperatures, by itself or in addition to slaked lime, a process team calls 'hot mixing' results in lime clasts.

ScienceAlert · We Finally Know Why Ancient Roman Concrete Was So DurableThe ancient Romans were masters of building and engineering, perhaps most famously represented by the aqueducts.

Fascinating world of ancient #glass: a #Roman jug made of blue glass with splashed decoration in white, yellow and brown. The decoration was created by applying fragments of coloured glass to the surface of the vessel before it was fully blown.
The technique was fashionable in the first half of the 1st c. A.D. and may have been influenced by the production of cast mosaic glass.
Found in a burial at Kempten-Keckwiese, dating ca. 30 AD.
