September has gone by so quickly! Today's the last day of #SciArtSeptember, and the prompt is "Hexagons".
Here's a fun sketch I coded up for a Genuary challenge.
I posted a little about it on my Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/posts/95838616
September is always such a burnt out month for me, so this year for #SciArtSeptember I ignored the prompts and just started painting bees. #SeptemBee? I ended up with dozens of little paintings of bees from five different families! Most of these bees (except for the European wool carder bee) are native to my little corner of NW #Colorado. Isn't #biodiversity beautiful?
If you like my bees, stay tuned! Next month starts #Invertober and #Inktober, and while I have not found any official invert prompt lists yet, I do intend to continue painting little guys. Maybe I'll even branch out beyond bees - I hear wasps are pretty neat.
Today's #SciArtSeptember prompt is "Chaos". I decided to take inspiration from a cool math thing: the "Chaos Game".
Rather than attempt precise drawing, I wanted a more organic feel....with just a hint of the underlying structure. The triangles didn't come out, but the resulting pattern turned out interesting.

I’m not sure if today’s #SciArtSeptember prompt of “happily ever after” is a thing that happens in the real world but I thought of the great mathematician, writer and polymath, Mary Fairfax Somerville (1780-1872). Arguably the best thing that ever happened to her was when she became a young widowed mother. Her first marriage to Lieutenant Samuel Greig had not been happy; he did not think much of women’s intellectual capacity. 1/n
For #Fedi #SciArtSeptember Day 29 • chaos • My hoop guts often look like chaos. These are from my vagus nerve #embroidery, the wandering ghost (2024). #SciArt
Today's #SciArtSeptember prompt is "Antiparallel". My mind immediately goes to DNA, and I drew an abstract double strand.

For the #SciArtSeptember prompt secret: Hollywood star & #inventor Hedy Lamarr (1914 – 2000). Born Hedwig Keisler in Vienna, she gained fame after her risqué starring role in Machatý's ‘33 film Ecstasy. Mandl, 1st of 6 husbands, objected & tried unsuccessfully to buy all copies of film. Hedy objected to him, a munitions manufacturer, dealing with fascists despite both being of Jewish heritage. She learned secret of her beauty

Today's #SciArtSeptember prompt is "Crown Shyness". For my drawing, I decided to go with a pattern that could be either macroscopic or microscopic structures.
#SciArtSeptember Day 27 • motherly • The uterus is the most motherly of organs. Bleeding Vessel (2022). #SciArt #embroidery
For the #sciArtSeptember prompt “motherly” my linocut portrait of a harried mama giant panda & 2 unruly cubs. They are magnificent, if funny, creatures, whose expressions make them easy to personify. They remind me of people I know.

Today's #SciArtSeptember prompt is "Galliformes", which is just such a delightful word! I went abstract, as usual, but tried a different technique than I usually play with. It kinda worked, and I'm sure I'll need to play with it more.

@cariad last year, I did a science-themed prompt list. But I'm in the middle of #SciArtSeptember now, and not sure if anyone else is interested in another month of science-themed daily prompts.
For #Fedi #SciArtSeptember Day 26 • galliforme • This red embroidery, paresthesia (hand 2) (2017) is reminiscent of a cock's comb. #SciArt
#SciArtSeptember Day 26 • lost • This #embroidery of cell division was ruined because the thread I used didn't have the dye set. Here it is before I washed it and then gave it to my SIL to integrate into her quilting. cell division (2016). #SciArt
When #physicist Lise Meitner (1878-1968) explained #nuclear #fission she understood nothing was “lost” (today’s #SciArtSeptember prompt) despite the missing mass after the reaction. She worked with chemists Hahn & Straßmann in 30s Berlin, investigating elements beyond uranium. They found bombarding nuclei of U-235 with neutrons actually triggered it to fission, or break, into 2 nuclei of roughly half the size & some free neutrons! 1/n

Today's #SciArtSeptember prompt is "Membrane", so I decided to play with drawing a phospho-lipid bilayer. I usually draw these with black ink, but I felt like adding a little color today.
