AnarchoNinaAnalyzes<p>Many critics, who almost invariably do not work in the fields of historical study or education, will reflexively scoff at the idea that the Trump regime is attempting to erase, or re-write history in a way that supports a Christian Nationalist worldview as the official truth and indeed the only valid, legal way to speak about history; often while admitting that Trump is functionally illiterate and certainly doesn't read much history. Of course that argument is irrelevant because he's surrounded by a whole bunch of white nationalist freaks who certainly do read and care about history, in so much as it furthers their project to transform America into a permanent fascist dictatorship and white ethnostate; Stephen Miller, who is clearly functioning as the regime's Goebbels, has certainly read a history book or two. Even setting that obvious reality aside however, sometimes Trump's executive orders just come right out and admit this is the plan. Take for example Der Führer's recent order to put noted white nationalist (and Vice President) JD Vance in charge of scrubbing the Smithsonian museum (and zoo) complex of "improper ideology."</p><p><a href="https://www.commondreams.org/news/trump-smithsonian-executive-order" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">commondreams.org/news/trump-sm</span><span class="invisible">ithsonian-executive-order</span></a></p><p>'Unabashed Fascism': Trump Executive Order Targets 'Improper Ideology' at Smithsonian</p><p>"U.S. President Donald Trump has elicited a fresh wave of anger after he signed an executive order on Thursday targeting exhibits or programs critical of the United States at the Smithsonian Institution, a sprawling network of largely free museums and Washington, D.C.'s National Zoo.</p><p>The order aims to prevent federal money from going to displays that "divide Americans based on race" or "promote programs or ideologies inconsistent with federal law and policy," as well as remove "improper ideology" from Smithsonian's museums, education centers, and research centers.</p><p>"This is unabashed fascism," wrote the journalist Lauren Wolfe on X on Thursday. Amy Rutenberg, a history professor at Iowa State University, wrote: "Last week, while visiting several Smithsonian museums, I kept wondering how long it would take for this administration to direct exhibits to be pulled. Not long, it turns out."</p><p>Look, if you think I'm being uncharitable about the purpose of this executive order, you can simply read the order yourself (here: <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/03/restoring-truth-and-sanity-to-american-history/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">whitehouse.gov/presidential-ac</span><span class="invisible">tions/2025/03/restoring-truth-and-sanity-to-american-history/</span></a>) because Downmarket Mussolini makes it very clear this is about erasing the history of slavery, structural racism, the existence of trans women, and anything that makes white people uncomfortable about the history of a white supremacist country built on chattel slavery and genocide. Trump even pinned the tail on the donkey by instructing the interior secretary to reinstall statues and monuments removed or changed since January 1st, 2020; and if your memory is failing you, that date is clearly about undoing projects to remove monuments to racists and Confederate slavers, in response to the efforts of the Black Lives Matter movement and the George Floyd protests. </p><p>Anyone arguing this is about preserving history from ideology (a phrase that makes zero sense because history is affected by the ideologies governing human behavior at the time it happens; obviously) somehow, is literally pushing fascist propaganda; this is about establishing an official narrative in support of a white nationalist permanent social and political order, and slowly eliminating any source of facts that might argue with that narrative. This is ideological policing, and history has shown us that these efforts to rewrite the past and eliminate dissenting narratives typically end in, literal, mass graves. </p><p><a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/Fascism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fascism</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/Trump" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Trump</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/JDVance" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JDVance</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/History" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>History</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/Patriarchy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Patriarchy</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/Slavery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Slavery</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/Education" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Education</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/Musem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Musem</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/Smithsonian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Smithsonian</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/WhiteNationalism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WhiteNationalism</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/Propaganda" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Propaganda</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/IdeologicalPolicing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IdeologicalPolicing</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/BLM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BLM</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/AntiTransPogrom" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AntiTransPogrom</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/StephenMiller" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>StephenMiller</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/GeorgeFloydProtests" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GeorgeFloydProtests</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/ConfederateMonuments" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ConfederateMonuments</span></a></p>

Miguel Afonso Caetano<p>"I served in Gaza for nine months, and first came across these procedures, called "mosquito protocol" in December 2023. It was only two months into the ground offensive, long before there was a shortage of dogs from the IDF's canine unit, Oketz, who were used for this purpose. This became the insane, unofficial excuse for this insane, unofficial procedure. I didn't realize then how ubiquitous using human shields, whom we referred to as a "shawish," would become.</p><p>Today, almost every platoon keeps a "shawish," and no infantry force enters a house before a "shawish" clears it. This means there are four "shawishes" in a company, twelve in a battalion, and at least 36 in a brigade. We operate a sub-army of slaves.</p><p>The procedure is simple. Innocent Palestinians are forced to enter houses in Gaza and "clear" them, to make sure there are no terrorists or explosives.</p><p>I recently saw that the IDF's Military Police Criminal Investigation Division opened six investigations into the use of Palestinian civilians as human shields, and my jaw dropped. I've seen cover-ups before, but this is a new low. If the MPCID wanted to do its job seriously, it would have to open far more than even a thousand investigations. But all the MPCID wants is for us to be able to tell ourselves and the world that we're investigating ourselves, so they've found six scapegoats and are pinning it all on them."</p><p><a href="https://www.haaretz.com/opinion/2025-03-30/ty-article-opinion/.premium/in-gaza-almost-every-idf-platoon-keeps-a-human-shield-a-sub-army-of-palestinian-slaves/00000195-e627-deaf-a397-f6674e390000" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">haaretz.com/opinion/2025-03-30</span><span class="invisible">/ty-article-opinion/.premium/in-gaza-almost-every-idf-platoon-keeps-a-human-shield-a-sub-army-of-palestinian-slaves/00000195-e627-deaf-a397-f6674e390000</span></a></p><p><a href="https://tldr.nettime.org/tags/Israel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Israel</span></a> <a href="https://tldr.nettime.org/tags/Palestine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Palestine</span></a> <a href="https://tldr.nettime.org/tags/Slavery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Slavery</span></a> <a href="https://tldr.nettime.org/tags/Gaza" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gaza</span></a> <a href="https://tldr.nettime.org/tags/HumanRights" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HumanRights</span></a> <a href="https://tldr.nettime.org/tags/IDF" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IDF</span></a></p>

MikeDunnAuthor<p>Today In Labor History March 27, 1866: President of the United States of America Andrew Johnson vetoed the Civil Rights Act of 1866. However, Congress overrode his veto and passed the bill, the first time this had occurred over any major legislation. The bill was the first in the U.S. to define citizenship, and to affirm equal rights under the law for all citizens, including African Americans. Johnson’s rationale for the veto was that the law “discriminated” against whites in favor of blacks. </p><p><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/workingclass" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>workingclass</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/LaborHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LaborHistory</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/slavery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>slavery</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/reconstruction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>reconstruction</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/civilrights" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>civilrights</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/racism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>racism</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/whitesupremacy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>whitesupremacy</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/potus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>potus</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/congress" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>congress</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/veto" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>veto</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/andrewjohnson" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>andrewjohnson</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/BlackMastadon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BlackMastadon</span></a></p>

MikeDunnAuthor<p>Today in Labor History March 23, 1871: Far left workers proclaimed communes in Lyon and Marseilles. The Paris Commune began March 18. Workers, including Cluseret and Mikhail Bakunin, had tried to create a commune in Lyon in 1870, as well. Prior to this, Cluseret fought the bourgeois moderates during the 1848 Paris uprising. And in 1860, he joined Garabaldi in his fight for Italian independence. In 1860, when William Sewell made a plea for European generals, he joined Union army with letters of support from Garibaldi, serving as a colonel, commanding troops in Shenandoah Valley. He eventually rose to the rank of general, but eventually quit when he was accused of insubordination for complaining about the abuse of civilians by Union troops. After that, he joined the Irish Republican cause, managing to escape a death sentence by the British. During the Paris Commune, Cluseret served as Minister of War. However, when he refused to arrest Monsignior Darboy, Archbishop of Paris, he was arrested for collusion with the enemy.</p><p>Cluseret once said, “the U.S. presents that strange anomaly of enslaved labor in a free nation. MikeDunnAuthor<p>Today in Labor History March 21, 1937: Palm Sunday, cops killed 19 unarmed men, women and children marching in a protest in Ponce, Puerto Rico. They injured another 200 civilians. The Puerto Rican Nationalist Party organized the march to commemorate the abolition of slavery in 1873 and to protest the imprisonment of the party’s leaders by the U.S. The police used Thompson submachine guns, rifles and pistols, shooting marchers in the back, during the Ponce Massacre. A commission placed the blame for the massacre on the U.S. appointed governor of Puerto Rico, Blanton Winship.
