Tom<p>Went down the self hosted home assistant rabbit hole tonight after receiving my Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition<br><br>So far running the speech to text and text to speech in separate docker containers and keeping all that voice data local<br><br>I don't have many IoT things for it to control, but I can say "Hey Nabu, what are my son's blood glucose numbers" and have it tell me the numbers and the trend which is really darn cool <a href="https://social.tomlarrow.com/tags/t1d" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>t1d</span></a></p>
Tom<p>Excited about the re-release of the Pebble Watches. I've been close to buying a used Pebble several times as a way of giving my <a href="https://social.tomlarrow.com/tags/t1d" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>T1D</span></a> son a way to view his Glucose numbers on his wrist, without having all the other notifications, apps, and expense that comes with an Apple or Android watch.<br><br><a href="https://store.repebble.com/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://store.repebble.com/</a></p>
Tom<p>I got called to come to my son's school to help change his insulin pod. I got there to discover that the app on his phone had thrown a memory corruption error and wiped out all of his insulin dosage settings<br><br>Fortunately, I have been keeping a copy of those settings in a self-hosted git repository, mostly so that I could look through the git history and see how the numbers change over time. This helps me understand the impacts that some of these changes are having<br><br>So there I am in his school's office on my phone reading a CSV off of my <span class="h-card"><a href="https://floss.social/@forgejo" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>forgejo</span></a></span> instance and plugging all of his dosage settings back into the app on his phone<br><br>We use these tools to store our source code. Been awhile since I wrote one of these and the last one I had posted on this instance was pretty outdated, so here we go.</p><p>My name is Nathan. I (what feels like) recently became a dad (she is already 2 years old! 🤯). I enjoy playing games, whether they be video, tabletop, virtual, or otherwise. Some of my favorite genres include RPGs, 3rd person action games, deck builders, strategy, and more. As for the video games, I have been playing on <a href="https://im-in.space/tags/PC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PC</span></a> / <a href="https://im-in.space/tags/Steam" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Steam</span></a> Deck, <a href="https://im-in.space/tags/PS5" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PS5</span></a>, some titles on <a href="https://im-in.space/tags/Switch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Switch</span></a>.</p><p>I work in IT, but also help out with graphic design work for the company (trying to get out of this part of the job and get back to more of the IT part of it). </p><p>I like tech. I use <a href="https://im-in.space/tags/Android" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Android</span></a> <a href="https://im-in.space/tags/iOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>iOS</span></a> <a href="https://im-in.space/tags/Windows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Windows</span></a> <a href="https://im-in.space/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> and <a href="https://im-in.space/tags/MacOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MacOS</span></a>. </p><p>I am a <a href="https://im-in.space/tags/T1D" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>T1D</span></a>, that is I have <a href="https://im-in.space/tags/Type1Diabetes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Type1Diabetes</span></a>. It sucks and I do not recommend it. Luckily there is a bunch of tech out there that helps me manage it nowadays.</p><p>So yeah, a combination of all that stuff and more is what you can expect from my posts.</p>
