"#KamalaHarris lost more than 10 mil votes from 2020 & to me it's all part of the mix. If you're willing to justify the carnage in the name of this country, it has a pall on your entire political project."
Prof. Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor talks to #TaNehisiCoates about the dark cloud that the Biden administration's funding of the genocide & violence in Gaza & the West Bank had on the Harris's campaign, and on the entire Democratic party.
In an anticipated second #Trump term, author #TaNehisiCoates discusses the role of writers, the #Democrats' loss of the "rainbow coalition," and why journalists must adapt to a new normal. #KaraSwisher explores Coates' perspectives on #race, Israel, and the challenges ahead.
“I don’t give a fuck.” - Ta-Nehisi Coates on the prospect of losing access to power & platforms for speaking up about #Palestine.
"I'm a Black writer. Like, I'm the descendant of this. And you tell me I got to look away from segregation, which is about the mildest word I can say about it, that's the price of it? No!"
#TaNehisiCoates is the man we all thought #Obama was.
Ta-Nehisi Coates speaking with Peter Beinart about his time visiting the Occupied West Bank:
“Israel is not a democracy. I thought I was gonna go over there and see some really morally complex stuff, but I didn’t. I mean, it was so obviously immoral. It’s blatantly immoral.”
"There's something dark here beyond Israel itself that I think is really, really hard to face."

The Atlantic accidentally published something on Gaza that's not garbage (not mentioning Coates explicitly, but clearly prompted by the attention to his essay):

One interesting tidbit: the claim that Israel's treatment of the Palestinians cannot be compared to Jim Crow because the situation is too "complicated" is ironic, because the US South literally defended Jim Crow with the exact same argument...
I really think many Americans would benefit from listening to Coates' description of what has happened, is happening, in Palestine.
What happens in Palestine is the prototype of what will happen to you, even in the west.
And for news nerds: "the elevation of factual complexity over self-evident morality".
"This is not about me, this is not about Tony, this is not about Gayle, this is not about Nate, we're going to be fine. It's the people who are invisible, it's the people who were not on that set to begin with, who were not part of that conversation."
Ta-Nehisi Coates discusses his recent appearance on CBS Mornings to promote his new book “The Message,” where he was aggressively questioned by co-anchor #TonyDokoupil about Israel's #apartheid state.
"When a nationalist project claims a right, the right that is claimed is always the right of oppression."

"That’s a common Zionist talking point; Zionists insist, over and over, that criticism of Israel is the same as denying Israel’s right to exist. They then equate that with antisemitic calls for Jewish genocide.
Coates’ calm reply was telling. 'My answer is that no country in this world establishes its ability to exist through rights,' he said. 'Countries establish their ability to exist through force.'”

"Journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates has written a new book in which he (like many human rights organizations) characterizes Israel as an apartheid state. CBS News correspondent Tony Dokoupil grilled Coates on his supposedly limited perspective, and demanded to know why he criticized Israel. 'Is it because you just don’t believe that Israel, in any condition, has a right to exist?' he asked."

There was no justification for Apartheid in South Africa
There was no justification for Apartheid in the Jim Crow South
There is no justification for Apartheid in Palestine

On Tuesday evening, as part of The Apollo’s In Conversation series, author Ta-Nehisi Coates spoke about his new book, The Message. The conversation turned to the #DNC, and who was and was not allowed to speak, and what that means for Black Americans.
"We are all accountable. I don't believe you get to take Shirley Chisholm, you don't get to take Fannie Lou Hamer, and then let all those bombs be dropped on people."
American author Ta-Nehisi Coates attended the Palestine Festival of Literature in May, 2023.
What he witnessed changed him forever, and inspired him to write about it in his new book "The Message"
Because of CBS Morning's Tony Dokoupil's staggeringly racist attack against guest Ta-Nehisi Coates, the segment has now been viewed 26+ million times.
Dokoupil has done more than perhaps any other mainstream American tv host to advance the Palestinian cause in America.
It was shameful. I posted about the #TaNehisiCoates CBS Mornings interview a few days ago.
This is a thoughtful, expansive response to #TaNehisiCoates being "interviewed" on #CBS Mornings on Monday.

My reaction to the same segment (my wife saw it live & insisted I had to see it) which I found later that day:
1) Tony Dokoupil revealed his ignorance & bias as soon as he opened his mouth
2) TD packed multiple lies and distortions into his first question (was it really even a q?)
#MediaBias #MSM
(In contrast, JonStewart's #TDS interview with TNC was excellent.)
I was also surprised to learn that the reporter attacking #TaNehisiCoates was #TonyDokoupil co-anchor of #CBS Mornings & husband to msnbc’s Katy Tur.
Thanks to @joyannreid for highlighting this unbelievable interview
A reporter on nationally broadcast TV network, #CBS, said the work of a fellow #journalist is what he “would expect to find in the backpack of an extremist.” The journalist essentially accused of stoking terrorism is award winning author #TaNehisiCoates, whose apparent offense was observing how #Palestinians live in the #WestBank. My jaw hit the floor as I listened to this discussion.
