Was the tree lonely, standing all by itself on the hillside, with nary a tree friend beside it?

I don't think so. There was the grass, bushes growing amongst it, the distant forest, the surrounding hills, and all the small animals that stopped to take rest in the tree's shade.

There was always someone to talk to. And then there was that view . . .

This #ancient yellow #cedar #tree is older than the Great Wall of China & older than the Vatican.
All #ElderTrees - of this colossal & majestic scale, must be preserved & their ecosystems protected.

Vertical, eye-level shot. A colossal cedar tree with rough, vertically ridged bark is centered, filling most of the frame. The tree is surrounded by green trees, partially out of focus, creating depth of field. Sunlight filters through the leaves. The tree texture contrast strongly against with the leafy foliage.

My favourite tree. A stately Maple that has seen things in its life.

When we moved here, 28 years ago, there was a tire swing on one of the branches, but that broke, thankfully when no one was on it. The trunk is hollow almost all the way up inside and has housed raccoons and possibly sheltered a fox, too.

Sometimes, the Beauty Isn’t at the Summit

I almost skipped this hike with its modest elevation and no famed views, but it turned out to be a hidden gem. Lush greenery, zig-zag paths, and a gnarly tree made it unforgettable. Months later, a monochrome edit revealed the true beauty of a summit photo I’d nearly dismissed.
