Alex@rtnVFRmedia Suffolk UK<p>The new <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/transmitter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>transmitter</span></a> I tested last week was installed at <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Ipswich" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ipswich</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/CommunityRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CommunityRadio</span></a> today in plant room of the general hospital (antenna is on maternity block) along with a SIM for a better LTE network, we now have full 50W output and full telemetry/control available via the PC (which also does <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/soundprocessing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>soundprocessing</span></a> and <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/RDS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RDS</span></a> ), so I can check all this is working (including keeping an eye on the FM deviation and TX endstage temperature) from home or my office 20 km away.. <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/BroadcastEngineering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BroadcastEngineering</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Suffolk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Suffolk</span></a></p>
Alex@rtnVFRmedia Suffolk UK<p>Waiting in one of the car parks of the general hospital for the rest of the crew to arrive, today we are moving the <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/CommunityRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CommunityRadio</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/transmitter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>transmitter</span></a> to the roof of the Maternity block. Alas, NHS won't allow me to share photos of the installation for security reasons (there's a lot of critical national infrastructure up there!) but <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Ofcom" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ofcom</span></a> are allowing us more TX power and it's a really good location, should get a few more km range on <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/VHF" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VHF</span></a> / <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/FM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FM</span></a></p><p><a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/radio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>radio</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/BroadcastEngineering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BroadcastEngineering</span></a></p>
Alex@rtnVFRmedia Suffolk UK<p>Got in the car, tuned into the <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/CommunityRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CommunityRadio</span></a> station - to be greeted by dead air (not even silence detector) but <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/VHF" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VHF</span></a> carrier and <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/RDS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RDS</span></a> present - not good - Ofcom does not like that! As soon as I was back home and in front of a computer, checked our streaming PC - for some bizzare reason the audio link stream to the TX has stopped. Restarted it and we are back on air on Band II ( VHF / FM ) <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/BroadcastEngineering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BroadcastEngineering</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/radio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>radio</span></a></p>
Alex@rtnVFRmedia Suffolk UK<p>We got new <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/soundprocessing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>soundprocessing</span></a> software for the <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/CommunityRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CommunityRadio</span></a> station in <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Ipswich" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ipswich</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/Suffolk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Suffolk</span></a> - testing out various presets and settings (don't worry, I'm not driving at the same time as doing this, its just that most of our FM listeners these days are using car radios)</p><p>The soundprocessing cuts in when you hear the glitch in the audio, there is a delay due to studio-transmitter link being an internet stream and the current programme is already quite loud <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/radio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>radio</span></a> <a href="https://social.tchncs.de/tags/BroadcastEngineering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BroadcastEngineering</span></a></p>
Drew Kirkman<p>Now that I have a video releasing in about six hours, it's time to think about the next one. Who wants to learn about this thing?</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/BroadcastEngineering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BroadcastEngineering</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/HamRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HamRadio</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/AmateurRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AmateurRadio</span></a></p>
Drew Kirkman<p>We’re on the air! “DC KILOVOLTS” is a pretty terrifying measurement, isn’t it? </p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/VacuumTube" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VacuumTube</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/BroadcastEngineering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BroadcastEngineering</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/AmateurRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AmateurRadio</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/HamRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HamRadio</span></a></p>
Drew Kirkman<p>It’s time for quarterly <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/transmitter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>transmitter</span></a> maintenance at one of my sites today. I always enjoy this one because I get to light up this <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/VacuumTube" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VacuumTube</span></a> powered beauty and put it on the air! Drew Kirkman<p>I hear we have a lot of new friends on the fediverse. If you’re looking for good <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/FediFollows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FediFollows</span></a>, here’s what I toot about: </p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/AmateurRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AmateurRadio</span></a> - I was licensed in 2011 and now hold a US Extra class license <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Broadcasting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Broadcasting</span></a> &amp; <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/BroadcastEngineering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BroadcastEngineering</span></a> - I like to joke with my ham radio friends that I turned pro. I have bigger toys now and I like teaching people about career opportunities in broadcasting.</p><p>Of course there’s also some random thoughts and cat pictures. Come say hi!</p><p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.online/@FediFollows" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>FediFollows</span></a></span></p>
Drew Kirkman<p>I wrote a script for a video about the evolution and history of the Emergency Alert System and how it relates to the broadcast industry (aka more effort at teaching you about it rather than slapping together a compilation of tests from the 1970s and 80s). It’s six pages long. I’m sorry in advance.</p><p>Not that those compilation videos of old EBS tests aren’t interesting, they just don’t teach anyone much.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/broadcastengineering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>broadcastengineering</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/radio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>radio</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/EAS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EAS</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/EBS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EBS</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/CONELRAD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CONELRAD</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/amateurradio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>amateurradio</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/HamRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HamRadio</span></a></p>
