Yosemite Chapel Portrait

This shot was captured during a break in a winter snow storm in Yosemite Valley. It had snowed most of the night and was still snowing when I awoke.
The Chapel is the oldest building in Yosemite Valley being built in 1879.
The chapel was restored after a flood in 1965 and had additional flood damage repaired in 1997.

Yosemite Chapel Portrait This is an image of the chapel located in Yosemite Valley captured during a winter snowstorm. The foreground is a snow covered from the recent storm that is blowing through the valley. You can barely make out the sidewalk leading up to the steps that had been cleared the previous day. The steps leading up to the twin doors of the chapel are snow covered with a few footprints showing. The front of the church rises up at a sharp angle and is topped off with s steeple/bell tower. The two-tone paint of the building contrast nicely with the surrounding snow covered trees. The pine tree to the left sits in symmetry with the bell tower and there are some large oaks standing over the building from behind. These trees are all covered in heavy snow.

Two episodes into #StarTrek #StrangeNewWorlds and while it feels better than #Discovery (not a hard challenge), and there’s a welcome to return to episodic storytelling and exploration, I’m not sure I’m on board yet. I mean #Spock has more emotion than your typical Eastern European. #Uhuru and #Chapel might be interesting enough but are absolutely nothing like their original characters, so what’s the point?

Will still give it a bit more time.

Wouldn't you love to have Christmas here? Yosemite Valley Chapel Spring Snow Storm. The Yosemite Valley Chapel was built in the Yosemite Valley of California in 1879. The wooden chapel was designed by San Francisco architect Charles Geddes in the Carpenter Gothic style. It was built by Geddes' son-in-law, Samuel Thompson of San Francisco, for the California State Sunday School Association, at a cost of between three or four thousand dollars. The chapel was originally built in the "Lower Village" as called then, its site at the present day trailhead of the Four Mile Trail. The chapel was moved to its present location in 1901, as the old Lower Village dwindled. As stipulated in the organization's application for permission, the chapel is an interdenominational facility. The L-shaped frame chapel covers an area of about 1,470 square feet. It is clad in board and batten siding with a prominent steeple. It seats about 250 people. The chapel was restored in 1965, when its foundations were raised in response to a 1964 flood, but was damaged in the 1997 Yosemite Valley floods and required repair. Procrastinated bloggin successfully by hanging around in Lightroom editing this photo. I felt like yesterday's version wasn't "finished".
I wanted to try a brighter style with more glow around the sun and I managed to remove a very distracting blade of grass.

Well, I hope you like it a bit.

About the chapel: I only knew the marker on the map and assumed no more than a cross in the forest. Well, I was "a bit" surprised. Btw it was built in 1687.
