Sometimes it's very nice to carve a circle that is not a correct circle.
The sligthly squashed clementine is the
ideal shape in my opinion.

A distaff I've made for an upcoming exhibition. The pattern is built up of circles and sections of circles and I more or less started at the bottom filling the space and figured out the next segment as I went. Very nice to work with a pair of compasses and just trust it completely. The circle is law and you just need to adapt and find ways to make it fit in the given area.

I almost exclusively use my knife when carving patterns, it gives the kind of freedom I like when building up the different parts of the design.

A little project this morning, taking shape for an Xmas gift. Feed me!

I was fascinated to learn the weedy, problem tree/shrub, #buckthorn is a hardwood. It grows so fast and is so ornery, I won't have any hesitation to cut it back for #carving projects in future.

The rough shape of a small bird with beak wide open sits among a pile of wood chips with a carving knife holding it up a bit.

Modified a brush for a lovely lady out on the fossil digs with us. She likes gouge chip-carving, so tried my hand at a simple design. The handle wood was tougher than it looked. Gouge marks filled with epoxy to keep the dirt out.
