What many software #devs fail to understand, probably because they come from an environment of world languages, is that minority language users, such as Norwegians, have practically zero guides or documentation written or otherwise recorded in their own languages.

For this reason, being able to use American English in the user interface, without all the American bullshit like fahrenheit, AM/PM, MM:DD:YYYY, and miles/inches, is essential in order to be able to look things up and learn software

Any of you good people on software dev Mastodon have a good solution to this problem?

For legal reasons, we need to store datetime values in a Postgres DB that will adapt to future political changes in TZ/DST rules. The dates are often several decades into the future. So a TZ for a given day at a given hour must be correct when it arrives. UTC cannot store this info, and UTC is what Postgres stores it seems.

Concept artists define the look of video games. For Aftermath, Luke Plunkett spoke to a number of them, from indie freelancers to those at AAA (major) studios and everything in between, to learn about the work they do, why much of it is unseen, and the gnarly nature of contracts and NDAs. "...the implicit expectation is that a studio will own the work you make forever. One particularly hostile contract stated they would own my work in perpetuity for the rest of my life, or my children's lives. Not sure if that one will hold up in court," says Daisy, a AAA veteran now working in independent development.
