@omi_geek #AI in itself might mot be that bad (we must address its #ecological impact, though). What is deeply wrong with it is the fact that it's driven by capitalists companies looking for deep profits. AI is so expensive to set up that only these companies can afford the costs and they are coming for their ROI.
Surely, this technology is worth something but imho, not that way.

A beautiful moss covered Western red #cedar #tree - still unprotected.
Only a human, with a compromised & unwell soul, would be OK killing an elder tree this magnificent. Some things are just plain wrong.
These ancient old growth trees are essential to fighting accelerated #ClimateChange. #OldGrowth ecosystems in our coastal temperate rainforests supports much biodiverse lifeforms. The naturally moist environment helps to lower impacts of wildfires & other natural disasters that have increased as our governments continue to fund & enable more ecocidal projects.
#the100dayproject I planted the #ecological bulbs of these tiny narcisses “ Tête-à-tête”, after they bloomed inside the house. Kept the dried flowers as a decoration or a little gift to #nature at any time.
Our coastal temperate #rainforests on Vancouver Island are super lush with so much #biodiversity. They are worth conserving & protecting. These forests are also full of medicines, some yet to be discovered.

#Moss covered big leaf maple trees are the main tree species growing in & around the trails & #riparian zones at #HeadquartersTownsite Park in #Merville on #VancouverIsland.
This is a view of part of the #TsolumRiver.
In 1964, Mount Washington Copper Mining Co. moved into its watershed & built a copper mine. By 1966, they left the area after extracting 940,000 tonnes of waste rock. Even though mining lasted only 3 years, repercussions of the mining practices can still be seen today. What was once a river that was sprawling with 15,000 coho salmon depleted to only 14 by 1984. In 1997, Tsolum River Task Force was formed by over 200 local residents with the goal of restoring Tsolum River's health & productivity.
The river previously supported large populations of salmon, steelhead & cutthroat trout & contributed significantly to the local economy. The economic benefit to the community, in 2007 dollars, was estimated at $2.7 million annually. Past remediation efforts have contributed to improved water quality in the Tsolum River. However, further improvement is needed in order to allow restoration of the fisheries resource.
A 6-ways partnership was founded in 2001 between the BC Ministry of Environment, Timber West, Tsolum River Restoration Society, Pacific Salmon Foundation, Environment Canada & Fisheries & Oceans Canada.
This partnership led to a successful wetland project, which reduced the copper levels to the point that fish stocks have now returned to the Tsolum River. The wetland has a limited life of 5-10 years, after which copper leachate will again impact the emerging fish populations.

Seventeen years ago today, on December 7, 2005, the FBI opened a new phase of their assault on earth and animal liberation movements with the arrests and indictments of a large number of activists. This became known as the #Green Scare.

I just learned something new on the internet.
The way clothes are repaired here in our house has a name, it's called
Sashiko, it is the Japanese art of visible mending.
Just that you know it, and you can be hip as well by using a Japanese word when you show your repaired trousers.

#Aerialphotography not only allows the #landscape #photographer a #perspective that is otherwise reserved for birds. #Dronephotography also provides an impression of #ecological #contexts. For example, my aerial photo from the north of #Berlin clearly shows the natural corridors between agricultural areas, which allows #biodiversity to spread and find #refuges for hibernation.

Dead #trees are not wasted timber dollars - they are sources of food for literally thousands of beings in a #forest #ecosystem, from tiny microscopic beings to insectivorous birds. Standing dead trees are known as snags, while a fallen dead trees are nurse logs. A cut or natural stump can serve the same #ecological function as a #NurseStump.
Nature wastes nothing. If there is a nutrient source to be had, there is a being to benefit from it. Nurse logs, standing snags & nurse stumps play hosts to all sorts of mosses, lichens, fungi, insects & arthropods, many hidden deep inside, as well as other living beings that prey on them.
Nurse #stumps are still deeply rooted; new plant, tree & fungi life grows out of their tops. Nurse stumps & dead stumps that have no new growth atop are like anchor systems for living trees growing in forests. You destabilize the ecosystem when you remove them from their natural #environment.

I love the wild #Westcoast on the island. Once you pass Sooke township area, there are tons of wilderness access trails into/through forests & access to several isolated beaches. This is a few kms past French Beach area.
