Just a heads up for those of you who support us in keeping the lights on. Patreon is now using #Apple's in-app purchase system. That means if you choose to donate in the future, 30% of what you donate is going to go to Apple and not #Fosstodon. If you login to the web page instead of using the app that won't be the case.

My Fedi Requirements:

1) Must not have a US-Domain Extension

2) Must not be hosted in the United States

3) Uses CherryPick or Misskey (Mastodon is a last resort)

4) Must be OK with people who write in English.

5) Must have at minimum a 2,000-character limit. This simple list is more than 500, for example, so 2,000 may sound like a lot, but it's not.

6) Must be well connect. - The less fragmentation, the better. I want to have no problem following people.

7) No hate speech or illegal activity

Number 6 is the problem, because of sites like Fosstodon or Mastodon Art, for example, that blacklist damn near every possible site, left and right. Go back to Reddit, if that is your goal.

Fosstodon really pisses me off.

Anytime I try to move to a Fedi site, I have to double-check to see if that site ACTUALLY connect to Fosstodon.

They're nearly as bad a Mastodon Art.

You do not, make the Fediverse, fun.

@AkaSci it would be nice to report something about technology and not that #political crap which comes to me from every damn corner of this world. Your account is on #fosstodon so act accordingly !

One good advantage of #GoToSocial is it accepts up to 5,000 characters toots/statuses/messages, compared to just 500 in #Mastodon (at least in my #FossTodon instance). I can post blog-like contents in here.

Random plug, but I've been using it for a few weeks now, and it is absolutely fantastic as a podcast-focused solution. Free, open source, and fully fleshed out (from my perspective). Big fan so far!

It is amazing to see how #Fediverse works. Last Thursday, I created an account for #Turris project - @turris and I thought that I will slowly set it up, prepare everything and then announce it. But some people found it in the meantime anyway (even though I explicitly disabled public listing on #Fosstodon). And once a post was out there mentioning that we have an account, information started to spread. So I finished the setup quickly and did an introductory post yesterday and it spread like wildfire. Amazing to see in a real-time boosts followed by new followers followed by another wave of boost... Today, we are going to announce the account on the #legacy networks as well. Let's see what effect will that have

Engineers of #fosstodon, I need your help.

I'm building this desk with hidden monitors; basically a box that can open. The box opens with hinges and hydraulic gas springs (see pic). The box will then be placed on an electric desk frame.

My question: will it be a problem to have the legs in the middle of the frame (see white frame pic)? Will it be sturdier if the legs are towards the end (see black frame pic), so that the weight of the box when it's open is more on the legs?

Dear #fediverse, we want to try to get #Turris project visible here. We could setup our own #server, but I was thinking, that a better way would be to join a #fosstodon to be with other likeminded projects. As it is nowadays #invite only, do I have in my reach somebody who could send me one?

Does anybody have a #fosstodon invite? I'd like to transfer there from #techhub as I become more involved in the #libre / #opensource space.

With botsin.space shutting down, I’m looking for a new home for @rladies_bot and @pyladies_bot. I looked into #hachyderm (they have a max of 5 posts per day policy which the bots can easily reach) and #fosstodon (English only; so unfortunately also not an option) but they don’t seem to be a fit.

Any idea or recommendation is very much welcome!

Okay, css tooling opinion question for fosstodon. I want to create scoped css files for individual components within my codebase. Some will be web components, others will just be server side. `@scope` is out because Firefox doesn't support it, but there's a postcss plugin to sorta polyfill it (destructively, sadly). That means I need to process every css file in my codebase.
