Day eleven: ☢️💧

“About 90% of the #nuclear generation capacity the #Coalition proposes to build would not have access to enough water to run safely, according to a report commissioned by #LiberalsAgainstNuclear.

The report authored by Prof. #AndrewCampbell, a visiting fellow at the Australian National University (#ANU) , assessed nuclear energy’s #water needs and the available #supply across the seven sites where the Coalition has proposed new reactors.”

“Well done Angus”

If you remember the member for #Hume is insisting the Federal Government if the #LNP wins election will purchase, run and make a profit using nuclear power.

No mention of locations of power generation sites (I assume existing sites) nor is there any mention of #geological, #enviromental or #NuclearWaste disposal studies.

Just took 1 hour to make this video while I just wanted to say: big bisou @dramaterialism for having written this big book, to Tais B Terletskaja for joining me into translating it på dansk, to @lab_aesthetics_and_ecology for believing in it and to @massiaofficinale for hosting the translating session. I love the illustrations @nelloid made and how things came together graphically thanks to Malte and Maria.
Cosy book reception for the second birth of the book at @detlillarum . That soup I served with pickled wilds from last spring was happy to display its generosity. Team work +++

Ps: der er stadig tid til at få din egen kopi!

We have these amazing karst canyons all over the island & on several surrounding gulf islands. Large karst networks of caves & canyons are found in Cowichan Valley, Comox Valley & all through the less populated North Island. Karst sites on Quadra Island & some islands in the Discovery Islands archipelago are being researched. Haida Gwaii has big karst formations network.

I find #geological #karst formations very fascinating. I enjoy exploring them when there's an opportunity to do so. I've found ancient old growth tree crystals in some of the karst formation forests here - they're magical, magnificent & hard to find if you're not looking hard in the right areas.

Learn more about karst & their #prehistoric link in BC:

We are life and concerned with life. #Geological time scale is by far lifeless in nearly all planets. The very second you take the life of a butterfly, in comparison of not takings it, makes all the difference. And we are cutting this butterfly's life short for no good reason other than profit and greed (a good reason for some).

Whether we are heading towards another long ice age anyway doesn't mean we should allow everything we can to speed #extinction up.

Day20 #ArtAdventCalendar Sometimes I feel "stone-agey" in #design, especially after a #hike in a very special mountain #forest. An ancient #ochre quarry is hidden on the slope. #Legends tell of a magical snake at a spring, often a reference to #geological features. There is still some eroded rock in different ochre colours. I first hammer it into small pieces until I can grind it. This produces pure ochre pigment.

I find rock in all it's forms just fascinating. I love the striations, pattern, color, texture and design. This particular rocky surface with it's hills, gully's, dark colors and deep grooves seemed to form a landscape from another planet. Found at #WreckIsland #GeorgianBay #Ontario

Scientists Discover Astonishing 36-Million-Year Geological Cycle That Triggers Bursts of #Biodiversity

“Scientists have published research indicating that movements in Earth’s tectonic plates indirectly stimulate bursts of biodiversity through 36-million-year cycles by causing sea levels to rise and fall. They believe that these #geological cycles, traceable back 250 million years, critically influence marine species diversity.”

I'm the leader of the #metamorphic #petrology group teamgar.net/. Using X-rays, electron- and ion-beams, and lasers, we study the chemical and isotopic properties of #crystals and their 3D distributions in #geological #materials. This helps us to better understand #nucleation, #growth and #diffusion. We collect our samples in the field and develop numerical models that simulate geological processes. The software teamgar.net/theria_g is a product of that research.
