Finally some good news today, in France!
The court ruled that the A69 highway was illegal: this absurd project would not bring any social benefit (it would be 10 minutes faster than existing roads) but would provide significant harm to the local environment and people while locking us even more in nonsensical car-first infrastructure!

After years of repression, false pretenses, and lies, this decision is a real relief!

Burghard Ciesla)

I often remark to friends about #Pakistan 's mountainous north being unsuitable for life now thanks to #ClimateChange induced melting, flooding, and landslides.

The #Karakorum #Highway the world's highest such motorway connecting Pak to #China should be thought of a "seasonal" road now, gets washed away on an annual basis, sometimes more frequently.

We cannot afford to rebuild every year!

DAWN.COM · Karakoram Highway blocked as floods ravage GBBy Jamil Nagri

One of my favorite road signs in all of Missouri, seen heading west on Interstate 70 in St. Charles County.

I very seldom drive there, but when I do, I love to startle the rest of my family by saying "Look everyone, we're coming up to Bryan ..." then screaming "ROAD!" at the top of my lungs.

I'm not sure why they decided to make "ROAD" uppercase, but I am forever grateful.

I don't even drive the #7 from Dartmouth, the traffic is less and the route is closer via the Airport, to get to the end of Rural #Halifax. But I am interested in the new #Highway Development down the road.

When I lived on the #EasternShore, it was a full 2 hour commute. The newer 100 series highway was 100 km speed, no towns or villages, and faster and shorter than the # 7 highway in the same area. We're about 90 minutes drive time since 1980.

How #traffic #exhaust may be affecting your #bloodpressure
It's not sitting in stopped #highway traffic responsible for raising one’s blood pressure. It’s also highway traffic’s fumes. Exposure to #roadway #pollution — even brief exposure to fumes and smoke; 2hrs in #rushhour traffic — can cause significant increases in blood pressure readings. 5mm mercury, according enough to push someone with normal levels to elevated or from elevated levels to stage 1 #hypertension.

The Seattle Times · How traffic exhaust may be affecting your blood pressureA new study led by UW tested how Seattle's rush hour traffic impacted participants' blood pressure. Here's what the experiment found.

"According to the #TxDOT draft document, a chunk of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act money will be transferred to a #highway program, and the agency says #HighwayExpansions could be eligible for the funds because they will reduce congestion, thereby reducing #emissions from idling cars.

To reduce emissions, “we want people on bikes, walking, and taking public transit instead of driving,” Humphreys said. “And nowhere does TxDOT say that’s the goal.”"

The Texas Tribune · Texas could spend federal funds meant to cut carbon emissions on highway projectsThe Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act required Texas’ transportation agency to create a carbon reduction strategy to get $641 million federal dollars. Critics say the plan is unlikely to meaningfully cut greenhouse gasses from the state’s massive transportation sector.
