We tried to hitchhike right away but had no luck. After an hour, we decided to move forward by ourselves. The gravel on this part of the route was even rougher and denser, like a gravel pit filled with fist-sized round stones—very challenging to cycle on. Fiona mostly pushed her bike, resulting in an average speed of 5.5 km/h. Anyone can easily calculate how long it would have taken us to cover the remaining 50 km—an impossible task, especially considering Fiona's health condition.
While walking, we stuck our thumbs up at every passing pickup. Finally, a couple stopped and gave us a ride. The pickup sped along at 50 km/h. It was crazy sitting in the back and hearing all the stones flying against the truck.
At the Camping Municipal, we were allowed to pitch our tent for free, at least during this 'off-season,' as the place was not maintained.
In this village, where our SIM provider had no network, we have been stuck for three days, partly because Fiona was seriously ill with a heavy bronchitis and sinusitis
