If there's anything I want #Tech to take away from the popularity of #Substack is that if you provide fully managed blog and email hosting, people will pay you truck loads of money directly or indirectly. Also, this is why Comradery is doing well because it's getting to be that Patreon alternative many are looking for. For the tech dudes that are baffled, read this. siderea.dreamwidth.org/1824441 #Patreon #Host #Hosting

#AskFedi: Someone not on here asked me whether there are any decent mail hosting services that also can handle custom domain and can serve as a registrar for it.
My first response was: no, not any really trustworthy ones (think mailbox, posteo, …). Was I wrong in that assumption? Because I think this is a “what color do you want your dragon situation”.
And if not, what would y’all recommend as a non-US registrar?

I don't want to spend my weekends cleaning up hacked WordPress websites, but I do want my websites to help people, provide valuable information, and rank.

These are my maintenance habbits, or "best practices" if you will, and they've served me well.

Do you agree? Am I missing anything? And what did you kind of know already, but forgot to do? Let's discuss.

Recommendations for secure WordPress hosting
oldrup.dk · Recommendations for secure WordPress hostingIt only takes 5 minutes to install WordPress. That’s good, because it leaves time for the responsibilities that come with hosting your WordPress website yourself.

Since nobody is looking at my support ticket, I tried their support chat. After I got the useless “AI” to load, I gave it the requested info, and it happily transferred me to a human.

Not sure if they don’t staff support on weekends or what, but I got an error message saying nobody was available, and to create a ticket.

whc.ca not being awesome so far.

If anyone out there runs a #Plesk server, check to see if your have a ton of emails stuck in your mail queue. There was a problematic email security update that got applied within the past 12 hours that caused mail queues to stop processing both incoming and outgoing email.

Fortunately, it's an easy fix.

#TIL about #PikAPods;

"Instant Open Source App Hosting
Run the finest Open Source web apps from just $1.20/month."

I can't endorse this company's services without at least trying them, so keep your grain of salt handy. But I like the concept.

In light of my getting abruptly kicked off #Oracle Cloud without explanation, can someone recommend a Europe-based, trustworthy, independent or anti-fascist / libre-left-aligned cloud hosting solution?

Big pro if they're a coop or democratic membership org of some sort.

Ideally I want to be able to use #kubernetes or k3s for most workloads, but if they only offer vps or straight-up compose-files; I'll be fine.

I don't want to open any ports in my homenet, so I at least need somewhere trustworthy with a public IP to run my mesh vpn of choice.

The response I got from @beasts about my recent post reminded me of their no-support staff policy.

I had a couple of questions about setting up the Pi 4 I have hosted with them and they responded very quickly and knowlegably (sp?)
