We had no idea initially what had happened to her since she was unable to send any messages or make any calls upon detention. She was moved to a facility in Vermont at first & then #Louisiana where she is now. Where she is now is a #jail that has space rented by #ICE & is kept in a room with over 80 other female detainees,” Anderson posted.

I got a #freebsd #jail called 'solr'. I want to start /usr/local/etc/rc.d/solr first and then I want to start a /usr/local/etc/rc.d/solr_exporter script I wrote.

The solr_exporter service needs to start AFTER solr does.

The original solr rc.d service script that comes with the package appears to not make use of daemon at all.

If I bring up the jail, solr starts but the solr_exporter script fails because it tries to start it up immediately afterwards but since solr isn't ready yet, it fails.

Any way to fix the timing of this? The way jails start services seems.. weird.. I tried adding: until sockstat -4 | grep :8983; do sleep 1; done in the start section for solr_exporter but then it just hangs.

Not sure what to do here. Any FreeBSD jail experts know how to solve a situation like this?

A serial #car #thief has been sent to #jail and banned from #driving after stealing and crashing an #EV converted #VW #Kombi ( Typ2) in #Powys #Wales worth £65 000 as he couldn't handle the vehicles acceleration and skidded on manure on a country road (alas, the vehicle was written off)

(incidentally this seems to be a *really* quick turnaround for a Crown #Court case, from #arrest (and #remand) to jail barely within a month?)

Two men in #Essex #nicked and sent to #jail for #keyless #car #theft of £1,3 *million* of high value vehicles across the county (several SUVs and a modified #FordFiesta ) as well as running a #chopshop in #WalthamAbbey - the worst part of this is looking at the pictures of their lockup, they could easily have made an honest living in the motor trade (I wonder if they had been stalking car enthusiasts via #socialmedia ?)

Today in Labor History March 2, 1997: Earth First! Activist, feminist and IWW labor organizer Judi Bari died. Bari, and her comrade, Darryl Cherney, survived a terrorist bomb attack in Oakland, CA in 1990, when they were organizing Redwood Summer, a 3-month campaign of nonviolent direct actions, during the summer of 1990, to end the clear-cutting of northern California redwood forests. The police and FBI immediately blamed her for the bombing, claiming that she was the terrorist and that the bomb was intended for logging companies. They arrested her and handcuffed her to her hospital bed, as she lay there with a shattered pelvis. Bari and Cherney were eventually exonerated and won a settlement for the FBI’s role in violating their civil liberties. The bomber was never caught. In addition to their organizing and activism, Bari and Cherney were also musical composers and performers. Their song, “Will the Fetus Be Aborted,” (to the tune of “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,”) was performed by Jello Biafra and Mojo Nixon on their Prairie Home Invasion album.

Bari was instrumental in organizing Local 1 of the IWW, an effort to unite timber workers and environmentalists around the same goal of ending the clear-cutting of the forests. Some of the actions during Redwood Summer included preparing breakfast at base camp and getting it to the timber workers at 5 am, before they began work, in an effort to talk with them and organize them. Redwood Summer, as a whole, was well-organized. Veteran Direct-Action activists hosted numerous organizing events in the months that preceded the actions, to train activists in their legal rights, direct action tactics, security, jail solidarity, etc. However, there was little to no training in labor organizing or class solidarity. Consequently, at least for the actions in which I participated, the conversations with timber workers tended to be privileged activists talking down to the workers, telling them how they should be thinking and acting, and the timber workers yelling at them and threatening them. One environmentalist was clobbered with an axe handle. Others were attacked with rocks. And on at least one occasion, assailants fired guns at base camp. Overall, the actions did not stop the clear cutting of the forests, but they did slow things down for a while, and they did reduce Louisiana Pacific’s profits.

The "Crystal Methodist", who through mismanagement destroyed the finances of the #Coop #bank to the point the Cooperative group lost control of it, hundreds of jobs were lost and it was taken over by a hedge fund (its recently been taken over by a mutual building society which is slightly better), is now serving 1,5 years #jail for defrauding his own close friend out of money when she had #dementia (and the estate after she passed away!)

Today in Labor History February 15, 1933: Giuseppe Zangara tried to assassinate President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt in Miami. He failed, mostly because he was too short to see over the crowd. However, Chicago mayor Anton J. Cermak, who was shot in the attack, later died, in part from his wounds and in part from medical malpractice. Zangara confessed to the crime in jail, stating “I kill kings and presidents first and next all capitalists.” He was executed in Old Sparky, Florida’s electric chair in March, 1933. Philip K. Dick’s novel, “The Man in the High Castle,” is based in part on the premise that Zangara succeeded in killing FDR.

One of the most important things I've learned from the community work trying to stop jail deaths in #SanDiego is that this this isn't a local issue

Arizona Public Media premiered a documentary about the high rate of deaths at the Pima County/Tucson detention facility last week. The parallels between what is happening there and what is happing here are striking

Is there an jail death crisis also happening in your community?

That civil action, known as an Article 78 proceeding, will essentially serve as an early #appeal. In the coming weeks, a NY appeals court will begin to consider the proceeding.

In remarks Thursday evening at his Mar-a-Lago estate, #Trump attacked the case & vowed to formally appeal, even though he was expected to avoid #jail or any other substantive #punishment.

“We’re going to appeal anyway, just psychologically, because frankly it’s a disgrace,” he said.

#Trump to Be Sentenced in NY #Criminal Case

The proceedings are set to begin at 9:30AM in Manhattan. Though the president-elect is expected to avoid #jail time, his #sentencing on 34 counts will formalize his status as a #felon & make him the first to carry that distinction into the White House.

The New York Times · Trump to Face Sentencing in N.Y. Hush Money Case: Live UpdatesBy Ben Protess
A little story from Russia for you. I want to share one of those, since liberal mass media always like to share stories about business successes. It is always one sided and wrong (they really like to “forget” about such facts as country of birth, phases of market, inheritance etc.) – here is a little bit of the other side.
There was a guy, named Andrey Kotov, who really like inventions. He was a "mad scientist" in a good way. He tried to create a lot of things. His entire home was full of different contraptions and gadgets, that he created with his own hands. Got all the “A” marks at school and university. He tried to create his own business – an AI powered glass tanks for fish. Programmed and developed all by himself. But, as I wrote in my previous posts, modern imperialistic Russia is not a place for anything new. So, no one cares and his idea didn’t work out.
Kotov was a real scientist – he had written several scientific articles and had a grant from the state for his research. But in 2022 due to a sack of budget spending to all peaceful science programs this grant was rejected as well.
A vegetarian, Buddhist and a scientist – no enemies, really nice person. No police records, no felonies no crimes. A perfect citizen from liberal point of view, still hoping to achieve a dream of creating something new and becoming a successful businessman.
But, our guy didn’t give up. He decided to create a travel agency and called it “Men travel”. You see, Kotov also really liked traveling. It was another of his hobbies, passions. And he decided to try one more time to turn his passion into a business.
He came up with an idea to make extreme tours specifically for men. One, who knew Russian politics, after these words may already guess the ending of this story. Kotov had one fatal flaw – he didn’t care about politics. And when anti-LGBT law came to power in Russia his “Men travel” immediately became a target for political police.
He was arrested with brutality and humiliation, as Putin forces always do. And then since Kotov was considered an LGBT activist and his company was portrayed as a branch of LGBT movement he experienced specific kind of torture , that is common in modern Russian penal system especially to anyone accused with anything connected to LGBT.This and other tortures were used on him non stop and all this day by day systematically. Meanwhile court was about to sentence him for 10 years and another case for 7 years was preparing – 17 years total. And someone among executioners of political police had gone too far – Kotov died. He died from tortures, just as a lot of people before him in Putin’s prisons. He endured several weeks of hellish nightmare of Moscow penal center “Vodnik”. He died without any guilt whatsoever. According to open data - He was not even an LGBT person. He just created a company with a convenient name for political police forces to attack.
He was just not created for this fascist country. He tried to follow his passions. He tried to find his way. And he pay an ultimate price just for this. He was killed in a terrible brutal manner, They say, that it has happened after a visit of psychiatrist – and we all know what it means – a torture with medical equipment and specific drugs to make pain unbearable, an NKVD heritage from Stalin’s time. Kotovs relatives, as always, in modern Russia are now under pressure to let this go as a suicide.
Sorry guys, but getting credit for your invention and creating a business empire around it – may only work in some liberal fairy tales. RIP Andrey Kotov - you did not deserve all of this.
