El Perro Negro<p>Quick trip back to UK saw me in the lovely Kentmere Valley on a bitterly cold and blustery day with extensive hill mists. Instead of the intended Kentmere Horseshoe we wisely opted for the lowly Yoke and Sallows instead. Kept below the cloud line. WalkLakes<p>Today's <a href="https://mas.to/tags/LakeDistrict" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LakeDistrict</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/TrigPoint" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TrigPoint</span></a> is the one on Little Mell Fell and was in fine condition when we visited it on a sunny day, with Blencathra in the distance behind it.</p><p>It's easy to access via a remarkably short and steep walk from the straightforward access point of The Hause.</p>

Great walk in the Lake District on Sunday, over High Spy and Bull Crag, as a "guest" of Tyne Valley Mountaineers.

No snow at low level, icy paths on the way up and down, and plenty of deep snow on the tops. Went in past my knee at one point, and that's a long way on my legs.

Would've been easier with crampons and poles in places, but I managed to stay on my feet.

Mostly snow-covered rugged landscape. Clumps of heather poke through in places, other areas seem to be deeply covered. A group of hikers are in the middle of the photo. The clouds look low and threatening.

Been a while, guys.

A belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from me!

November and December in the Northwest of England have been rubbish, weather wise. Near-constant murk and drizzle, punctuated by the occasional storm.

But for once, I found a forecast for a clear day and rearranged my work shifts accordingly.
