For those of you in Melbourne and looking for fun things, Frankie McNair’s Tabitha Booth Variety Spectacular and Formal Apology Hour would be my pick (and there’s $25 tickets on tight arse Tuesdays).

A great history episode of the Yarra BUG radio show, talking about the history of Bicycle User Groups in Victoria. Including a shout out to the Port Melbourne group.

Paul McKay says that it was important to get early wins, to keep the energy up.

The Port Phillip Bicycle User Group has had 2 incarnations: it re-booted in the 2010s, under the much missed Georgie Fyfe-Jamison.

The BUGs were set up by the Bicycle Institute (precursor org to Bicycle Network), but then "voted off the island" (divested from BN) in the early 2000s. In recent years we've begun to work more closely with BN.

A really interesting show, worth a listen!

if you're the kind of Australian who's interested in having a physical street atlas for the current year - be warned, UBD Gregory's is shutting down.

Rumor is Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth will get one more edition in August[?], but for everywhere else (seemingly including Melbourne and Tasmania), what's on shelves is probably the final edition.

now please excuse me while i tag spam

one of the #Melbourne suburbs I drive through on the school run is virtually a free furniture store from all the things the locals put out, and today I found exactly the set of shelves we still needed for our @vinylrecords 🥳

also, plenty room for expansion of the collection 😅

It's a beautiful autumn day in #Naarm #Melbourne, and here is a gorgeous chunk of acacia gum from my travels.

Acacia gum is water soluble, edible¹, and is my go-to adhesive for a lot of projects. It's been used throughout Australia for thousands of years.

#foraging #foragingAustralia

¹ Be careful chewing acacia gum. The adhesive properties can be *very* strong, resulting in your family laughing at you for minutes because your jaw is glued shut again. Don't panic, it dissolves eventually.

Suburban Rail Loop East: 26km rail line, construction cost $35b over 13 years

North East Link: 10km tollway, construction cost $26b over 8 years (up from $10b as budgeted in 2016)

SRL certainly deserves scrutiny, but where was it for NEL?
