This is what forecasters mean when they talk about a 100-year flood.
From @AssociatedPress: "Here’s what to know about how scientists determine how extreme a flood is and how common these extreme events are becoming."

I cracked it. I can more or less accurately calculate CAPE now within a useful margin of error. I will work on a 2D trapezoidal volume technique to calculate the "area" between the temperature and the reference moist adiabat (the red line and the purple line to the right) for resolution/accuracy
Abstract submission and registration are open for the 21st @ECMWF workshop on #HPC in #meteorology. Join us in Bologna from 15 to 19 September.
This year's event coincides with the 50th anniversary of the organisation.
Abstract submission deadline is 30 April, registration will close in 31 July.

"A dominant high-pressure system is forecast over the continent and a low over the west/northwest, which is also a common signal for La Niña springs in Europe, as seen in past data."
The #USA stopping the sharing of #climate and #meteorology data is deeply concerning, and apart from putting lives at risk globally, will have significant local and global negative economic impact.

"A Stratospheric Warming event is going to start in the coming days. We see a weakening and a split of the Polar Vortex in the forecast, which means the Polar Vortex will be torn into two separate cores. One of these cores is forecast to move over North America, impacting the weather patterns over the United States and Canada in the days and weeks following this event."

#meteorology nerds hello I need you. what is this?? does this phenomenon have a name?? Is it rare? it faded in and out of visibility but I could see it fairly consistently for about 45 minutes before the plane shifted to a different angle. im guessing it’s a result of refracted light off concentrated ice crystals in the clouds, but it’s cool as fuck and I feel so lucky I spotted it
