@drew_belloc @noodlejetski @drew_belloc @noodlejetski I don't have a dock either. I do have a favourites row though, and currently these are the pinned apps (arranged in no particular order):

1. Calls by #GNOME & #Purism
2. Chats (#Chatty) by Purism & GNOME - supports #SMS, #Matrix, #XMPP
3. Contacts by GNOME
4. #Firefox web browser by #Mozilla
5. #SignalMessenger
6. GNOME Settings
7. #Phosh Mobile Settings
8. Tweaks by #postmarketOS
9. #Tuba (client for #Mastodon / #Fediverse)
10. #Kasts by #KDE
11. #DeltaChat (#openstandards-based, #securityaudited, fast #e2ee chats over bloody #email!)
12. Files / #Nautilus by GNOME

All #FreeSoftware /Libre, #OpenSource #FOSS / #FLOSS : )

Note: The home screen and the app drawer / search / overview is all one and the same.

Stuff a #Pihole in your #router because your #browser is about to betray you
You could be forgiven for feeling #webbrowser suppliers are actively working to make us trust them less.
#Mozilla bought an #ad company; this month, removed its promise not to sell your info.
theregister.com/2025/03/08/pi_
Mozilla sells #ads, #Google limits blocking-time for stricter measures
Pi-hole takes over as your network name server, and silently redirects all web requests to known ad-server addresses to a #DNS sinkhole.

I see #mozilla making all these #ai related announcements and it makes me sad.

We need you focused on making #firefox the world's greatest web browser.

We need you to curb stomp #chrome and #edge and all their sleazy shenanigans1.

There are so many areas for improvement but I'm going to list a few anyway:

  • Better support for multiple profiles. Trying to use multiple profiles in Firefox right now is miserable #ux sadly.
  • WebUSB support
  • Fuller WebGL support

(With apologies to the folks working on those teams. I'm sure you're good people, but these products are super sleazy in the form they ship to the world)

:firefox: Mozilla blocks UAE bid to become an internet security guardian after hacking reports | @Reuters

「 Reuters reported in January that Abu Dhabi-based DarkMatter provided staff for a secret hacking operation, codenamed Project Raven, on behalf of an Emirati intelligence agency. The unit was largely comprised of former U.S. intelligence officials who conducted offensive cyber operations for the UAE government 」

Alright I now regret using #Firefox. Not because #Mozilla did shoot with the source code. Because its blocker doesn't protect my #privacy. I also regret reading about ADHD on my Android phone on #Chrome or even having a normal #Android phone.

Last week I read about ADHD on the web using Android's stock Chrome, now Google ads is showing me advertisements about ADHD. Down with you Google.

If anyone cares about their privacy, they should avoid #Google like #plague It's a pity still people use the services it offers including the search engine.

The #Web has become a bad and creepy place. For now I'm switching to #LibreWolf.

Edit: Curid from Rust offtopic Matrix room suggested this:

For Firefox it says partial protection is provided and they can fingerprint my broswer.

Google lost its ad monopoly trial, Mozilla is concerned about the future of the company:
betanews.com/2025/04/18/google
("If the Department of Justice truly wants to fix competition, they can’t solve one problem by creating another." - as much as I dislike Mozilla, I think they are mostly right here. It was a really poorly made decision, and won't solve anything, as for Mozilla, they will probably get paid by Microsoft to make Bing the default in Firefox, or slowly go bankrupt, and leave the Gecko engine to the community which won't have enough capacity to compete with Google (or if they will be forced to sell Chrome and step down from the Chromium project, it will likely be Microsoft, to maybe kill off Chrome like they did with Skype and Atom, and take control of Chromium), Firefox and its forks will be the next Internet Explorers...)
("Gecko powers Firefox (and other independent browsers) and puts privacy and people first." - nah, unfortunately Firefox is pretty far from a privacy-respecting browser nowadays. A real privacy browser should be private without any manual hardening. But it needs to stay alive because it's the base for some real privacy browsers like LibreWolf.)
(There's quite a lot of aspect of this whole Google thing, maybe it deserves a separate post.)

BetaNews · Google has lost its ad tech monopoly trial... and Mozilla is scaredIn a decision that surprised few, a judge has ruled that Google is guilty of “willfully acquiring and maintaining monopoly power” in advertising technology. Google (or its parent company, Alphabet, at least) is obviously unhappy with the ruling, but it’s not the only one.

So -- the fallout. But first, Google is appealing the verdict.

When all is said and done, Mozilla and Apple are both likely to pay the price, although Apple is a big fish and can probably talk its way out of some the damages. But Mozilla is in danger. There was always that question about the implications of its intimate affair with Google.

We are not lawyers, nor our alter egos play as such on the Internet. Ergo in the face of legal challenges we are only rusticos.

Lately I've been wondering how I could contribute to open source projects despite not being a programmer and not having money for donations, and then I found out about #localisation. For the past couple of days I've been doing some translations for #mozilla projects, mainly #thunderbird, and having my strings aproved has been really satisfying. I love how intuitive Mozilla's localisation interface is.
