It is greatly appreciated. :-) :-)<br> <br> Midnight Monsters: A Startled Moontinkifer<br> Do not be afraid. Like many night creatures, they just wish to be left alone. These secretive beings often hide in the shadows, except when the moon is full and bright. The midnight moon is their time of wonder and if you happen to be in the right place at the right time, you just may witness some magical happenings. This particular midnight monster is called Moontinkifer and can be found high up in the Balkan mountain range on the border between Bulgaria and eastern Serbia . It was not easy getting to this destination, but I have found it worth the effort, expense and skinned knees. Legend says that if one is lucky enough to spot them during the day, they appear as drab, colorless creatures, almost invisible against the mountain landscape of rocks and boulders. They shine (literally) at night when they come out of their hiding places to dance. Moonlight causes a shimmering transformation from dull gray to a luminous rainbow colored glow! It is believed that the glimmer of incandescent color and magical movements is their way of attracting a mate. Otherwise, they appear to be quite shy, non-aggressive individuals, who unfortunately, startle easily.<br> <br> This artwork is now available on Redbubble:<br> <a Annie Hsh 👾🖖☕<p>With the most recent online trend of having AI generated images sort of resembling the art style of Studio Ghibli, nothing sums things up more than this quote by Hayao Miyazaki on similar technology from several years ago:</p><p>"I can't watch this stuff and find [it] interesting. Whoever creates this stuff has no idea what pain is whatsoever. I am utterly disgusted. If you really want to make creepy stuff, you can go ahead and do it. I would never wish to incorporate this technology into my work at all."</p><p>Which also brings to mind this quote by Guillermo del Toro, said during a conversation with the British Film Institute, where he also, interestingly enough, references Miyazaki and his work later on:</p><p>“I saw a demo of AI and I thought oh that's what people think animation is, giving prompts and the computer does it. You know, but AI has demonstrated that it can do semi-compelling screensavers. That's essentially that. The value of art is not how much it costs and how little effort it requires, it’s how much would you risk to be in its presence. How much would people pay for those screensavers? Are they going to make them cry because they lost a son? A mother? Because they misspent their youth? Secret Corners: Hiding in Plain Sight The Enchanted Forest. In the hidden corners of the world, sweet mysteries abound. NOTE: I created this piece quite a while ago, using a rubbing technique (a block of concrete) to get the texture of the tree bark. :-) Almost hidden within a pile of maple leaves and tucked into the roots of a tree, stands a solitary, spiky haired creature of unknown origin. Arms outstretched, with a slight scowl on its face, it appears to be thinking of something important - perhaps what it would like to eat for lunch. Far back, lurking behind a tree, a young girl is watching. Drawn in black, white and gray graphite/pencil. NOTE: This description is created especially for my lovely blind friend, Georgiana. :-)

The Green Herring

Here's an experiment done in response to recent news in the art world. Image 1 is what I scribbled right before work yesterday morning. Image 2 is what those simple shapes turned into after I came home and reopened my art app. This is proof that all you need to create strange worlds is your imagination, something genAI and its proponents can never possess or understand.

A bunch of crude, white, blocky shapes on a black background. There are two vaguely triangular shapes, a curved noodle, and an oval in the background; and in the foreground, there is a long, curving strip.
The previous image's crude shapes transformed into science fiction textmode artwork by living hands. On an alien world, in a patch of blue ground surrounded by tall blades of blue grass, two magenta prism-shaped creatures with one eye each amble toward a white serpentine creature with a cyan underbelly and pointed ears folded against its head. Behind the snake is a giant, golden egg surrounded by shorter blades of grass. Beside the creatures, a line of red soil borders a natural, bubbling acid bath.
