3 years ago, I wrote about "Why Gemini is Essential".

I explore a lifestyle change I made at the time which forced me to develop #offpunk

This change has become completely part of my identity. I could not live without offpunk anymore. I don’t take my Internet connection for granted and often assume that my laptop is offline even when it’s not.

Agora passo a maior parte do meu tempo no computador desconectado e a sensação é ótima. Eu adoraria que tivesse algum cliente para #Fediverso que funcionasse da mesma forma. Vocês têm notícias de algo assim?

Por favor, deem aquele :boostgif: gostoso.

3 years ago, as I just had created Offpunk, I started to implement what would become ansicat : a way to render HTML (or any format) in your terminal

Besides a lot of technical learning, the biggest lesson was probably how bad people are at writing texts and abusing any format.

The offpunk-users mailing-list has suddenly seen a dramatic increase in volume. People are really starting to use #offpunk and asking questions, trying to understand how it works.

I’m doing my best to answer and helping people getting started. There’s now a "tutorial" command (which is simply redirecting you to offpunk.net/ )

People are also asking me about #gemini

@4bz i liked #ploum's essay about the two webs:
ploum.net/2023-08-01-splitting

i think it makes sense to resort tl a shitty web browser for the shitty JS-powered capitalist web; and whenever possible use #ytdlp or #tubular for hostile sites like #youtube;

and then use other web browsers (or rss readers, or ...) for the enjoyable web. those web browsers might not even need JS. these include #offpunk, #lynx, #netsurf, #dillo, #links, #edbrowse, #librera, #eww.

Today, an #offpunk user encountered a bug: a #gemini page could not be opened and was considered as "message/news".

I quickly pushed a workaround and investigated. The "message/news" was returned by the venerable "file" (which is on every *nix system since the last 50 years).

I wrote to the "file" mailing-list, had a nice exchange and managed to find the bug in "file". Which was promptly fixed by the maintainer and will be soon on your machine.

I ❤️ free software!

3 years ago, I released Offpunk 0.4 and said it was the start of "stabilisation-and-maturity".

ploum.net/2022-02-21-offpunk04

I was right. Not at lot has visibly changed since that. But, in reality, there have been so many improvements and bug fixes that #offpunk went from "crazy experiment coded in 6 weeks" to "useful tool polished during 3 years that you can rely on everyday to get things done".

That’s a (not so) subtle difference that most managers don’t g t.

If you are a Unix nerd and wish you spend less time using your mouse while watching flashy colors, I recommend that you give Offpunk a try:

I’m trying to make it easier to get started with offpunk. Feedbacks and discussions are welcome on the mailing-list :

or on the fediverse, using the #offpunk hashtag. Or on your blog. That would be awesome to read blog posts about people using offpunk
