Peter J Fullagar 🌈<p>Question:<br>Firstly, I’m disturbed that the <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/UK" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UK</span></a> government want to be able to see all encrypted things from <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Apple" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Apple</span></a>. (I’m not technical).</p><p>Now, somehow, I’ve managed to use <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/iCloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>iCloud</span></a> desktop on my Mac and laptop - saves just like a desktop, but it’s on iCloud. OTX Bot<p>Analysis of malicious HWP cases of 'APT37' group distributed through K messenger</p><p>The report details a sophisticated APT attack targeting South Korea, utilizing spear-phishing techniques and malicious HWP files distributed through a popular Korean messenger service. The APT37 group exploited trust-based tactics, using compromised accounts to spread malware through group chats. The malicious files contained OLE objects that executed PowerShell commands and shellcode, ultimately deploying the RoKRAT malware. This file-less attack method allowed for information gathering and potential remote control of infected systems. The attackers used pCloud for data exfiltration and command-and-control communication. The report emphasizes the importance of endpoint detection and response (EDR) systems to combat such evolving threats.</p><p>Pulse ID: 67a38d686710526e35f1ff4d<br>Pulse Link: <a href="https://otx.alienvault.com/pulse/67a38d686710526e35f1ff4d" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">otx.alienvault.com/pulse/67a38</span><span class="invisible">d686710526e35f1ff4d</span></a> <br>Pulse Author: AlienVault<br>Created: 2025-02-05 16:10:16</p><p>Be advised, this data is unverified and should be considered preliminary. Reinder Dijkhuis Does Art<p>I took a little side quest to clean up this iMac with Onyx. It really takes a very long time to fully reboot, but that process is almost done, so I get to try enabling <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/pCloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pCloud</span></a> Drive again here.</p><p>For now, this is the second-most important machine (after my iPad) for this cloud service to run and synchronize on if it is to fully replace Dropbox. 183231bcb<p><span>Fedi, please talk to me about cloud storage. <br><br>Currently I use rclone to make an encrypted backup of all user files on my desktop. Rclone can back up to </span><a href="https://rclone.org/overview/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span>many different cloud storage providers</span></a><span><br>Currently, I use both a local HDD and Google Drive. I chose Google because it offered the cheapest price for the amount of data I have (about 120 GB): I pay $30 per year for Google's 200 GB storage plan.<br><br>In an effort to reduce my reliance on Google, I am interested in switching to another provider. <br><br>The first issue is cost. I'm not an engineer. I don't have a huge salary and I have high medical expenses. So I don't want to switch to a provider that's much, much more expensive than what I'm paying now. <br><br>The second-cheapest option I've found is </span><a href="https://www.pcloud.com/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span>pcloud</span></a><span>, which has a $50 per year option for 500 GB. That's more than I'm paying now, but it would also allow me to back up more things (notably, I am not currently making remote backups of all my emails and videos). They also have a "lifetime" option that costs four times as much as the annual plan, but "lifetime in the cloud" isn't actually lifetime. <br><br>But does PCloud have some terrible drawback I should know about? Do they have a parent company doing evil things? I don't think they provide end-to-end-encryption, but I am encrypting my data myself before sending it to the cloud anyways. <br><br>I checked several NextCloud providers and they are all a lot more expensive if you have over 100 GB of data. Proton Drive and Box are also a lot more expensive. Are there other options I should consider?<br><br>Note that while I do make local backups, I'm not comfortable "local only."<br><br></span><a href="https://transfem.social/tags/CloudStorage" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#CloudStorage</a><span> </span><a href="https://transfem.social/tags/CloudBackup" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#CloudBackup</a><span> </span><a href="https://transfem.social/tags/LocalBackup" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#LocalBackup</a><span> </span><a href="https://transfem.social/tags/RClone" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#RClone</a><span> </span><a href="https://transfem.social/tags/ProtonMail" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#ProtonMail</a><span> </span><a href="https://transfem.social/tags/ProtonDrive" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#ProtonDrive</a><span> </span><a href="https://transfem.social/tags/NextCloud" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#NextCloud</a><span> </span><a href="https://transfem.social/tags/PCloud" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#PCloud</a><span> </span><a href="https://transfem.social/tags/Google" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Google</a><span> </span><a href="https://transfem.social/tags/GoogleDrive" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#GoogleDrive</a><span> </span><a href="https://transfem.social/tags/E2EE" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#E2EE</a></p>
