2. My child and I both do #parkour and there is only one studio about 25 miles away that does this. Riding there would be rather difficult due to time frame and road riding, and while taking the bus would be possible it is so slow, for systemic reasons, it's actually easier to drive. Also the train was pulled out 70-90 years ago.

So...yeah. Really transit would be better than riding for these two scenarios, or transit and riding.

2/end

Tonight was #parkour night.

I set up the same basic vault I bailed 2 weeks ago in London, with a wooden horse next to a mat, and practiced getting it right.

I now have the special kick up technique which should prevent the same thing happening again.

My shoulder musclea all hurt though.

Bajo he tocado tmb.

I must be one of the few people who train #parkour whose stride is longer than their plyo.

Yesterdays #SundaySupaXXL jam had a plyo about 1.5m that I couldn't quite manage, I was abput 100mm short, but which I could stride no problems because long legs.

It's a flexibility thing, I can no longer pull my legs up so quickly. This will probably get better with time.

Working on strainght arm technique. ""Straight, but not the full-on Elon Musk".

This week's #parkour session was speed runs. No surprises, I was slowest by miles. And I'm still stiff-muscled and achey several days later.

Amazing fun though. Runs are the side of the sport I have always admired the most.

Taking up parkour in my mid 50s was one of the best things I have ever done. Every week I can do a bit more, I'll never be elite but I really am getting somewhere with it.

I'm really happy with today's #parkour training session.

A month ago I signed up for a talent show and I wanna record like a minute of parkour lines, and today I did the first one, which ended up being just 10s

I was kind of self conscious, but then I sent to a friend who said it was "straight up mirror's edge", so maybe I just have high expectations....

Also did my first cat back into a precision landing, that was quite difficult, and was really rewarding to manage it consistently by the end of the day

The body sore all over is part of the fun (that a lie)

Ok I'm happy I got to the gym 20 minutes early, cause I had time to rest from the walk. Today's training was very intense.

First quadrupedal, ofc, then a game of floor is lava, with the twist that obstacles are single use and you have to cross the gym then come back, all to warm up

Starting with gate and thief vaults, but the meat of the training was the creativity section. 4 obstacles of increasing heights, and vault/cross them all. First with vaults that must use only one hand and one foot, then you must start the movement with your back to the obstacle, then no hands on the obstacle, then no feet on the obstacle, then neither (which led to some funny starts from me and the other newbie)

I'm proud of having been able to do all the moves legit (to my standards at least) and how much I trained today, I am actually pooped right now. Ngl, happy that the training on Saturday was cancelled/moved to Sunday maybe

I think I just realized why #parkour resonates so well with me.

I'm a Nihilist in the sense of "no inherent meaning, go ahead and make your own", and so I decided that helping people and being happy are the things that matter to me, even if some would say that's not important, and some would say it's counterproductive. Everyone has the right to choose what they find important and as long as you aren't infringing on others, all the power to you.

Similarly, in parkour, some people would look and say "that's just a handrail, its not an obstacle" meanwhile I have at least 3 different ways to have fun with a free-standing handrail (vault, balancing and going under it). As long as this isn't breaking the public stuff, both views are valid, and I choose the one that let's me have fun in my way

So... Yesterday I learned I'm too stretchy for my own good.

Like, not surprising, hypermobility and all that, but I learned that is been messing me up on parkour.

So there's this move, called a Kong. You jump at an obstacle, and then use your arms on the obstacle to push yourself, allowing you to jump higher or longer than you otherwise would. It's really cool and the thing most people seem to know about parkour in my experience.

Turns out, when I'm doing it, I am flexible enough to have both my feet and hands on the obstacle, knees at my shoulders basically... Which means I'm not really *pushing* myself, I'm just jumping and using my arms to hold myself in the air, and that lets me make it (apparently "looking like I'm making no effort" according to another girl at the gym)

So uhmm, I got to learn to push myself more with my arms, which is going to be a fun time...

I'm so so proud of myself. Like omg you have no idea. I think this is the first time I explained it loud for making a jump in parkour

I have been trying to balance on a beam facing forward for a couple of weeks now, might be over a month at this point

Today I went for the top of the back support of a bench which is rounded but not full of round.

Not just that, because I can't just jump up the back support, I decided to tic tac off of a tree, so I would have enough speed to reach that high

And after half an hour of dedicated practice on this jump, I fucking MADE IT.

Even wifey was doubting me yesterday when I said I was gonna try that. I honestly expected to not make it but make some progress

But hell no, I fucking MADE IT AAAAAA :neofox_scream: I feel over the fucking moon
