Hakiym is a firefighter, father, and poet who was bullied and assaulted with racial slurs by another firefighter. Hakiym tried to avoid the assaulter, but eventually had to defend himself. He was unarmed. The person perpetrating the hate crime faced no punishment, and Hakiym was convicted by an all white jury to almost 6 years in prison, and is now in Oregon's Snake River Pentientiary. Oregonians are calling on Gov Kotek to exonerate. #Pdx

actionnetwork.org🔥 Yes on 1187 - Make Polluters Pay We need your help to support SB 1187: Make Polluters Pay in our public hearing on April 7th in Senate Energy and Environment! The idea of a climate superfund is simple: if you make a mess, you should have to help pay to clean it up. Fossil fuel corporations warmed our climate, and should pay their fair share of the costs! Make Polluters Pay makes the largest oil, gas and coal companies liable for the costs of their pollution to our state.   Based on traditional superfund laws, ‘climate superfund’ would force the largest emitters to pay into a fund based on their fair share of emissions over the last 30 years. The revenue would then be used for climate disaster adaptation and resilience efforts. In 2024, Vermont and New York became the first and second states to pass climate Make Polluters Pay legislation. Four more states are actively considering proposals and many more are expected to follow. Make Polluters Pay will help Oregon be more resilient for wildfires and other climate damage adaptation, including flood protection, upgrades to transportation and electric power grids, water supply and waste-water treatment systems, agriculture and fisheries, building retrofits, health of forests and other ecosystems, and other salient issues. Take action now! Click here to email Oregon Senators and share your support for SB 1187 - it is quick and easy, and every contact makes a difference! Sign up to Testify in Support of SB 1187 - even though time will be limited we want to fill the roster with supportive voices from around the state. Submit your Testimony in Support of SB 1187 - we need to show that there is overwhelming support to Make Polluters Pay! Join us in Salem on Monday, April 7th! Coalition partners from Sacred Organizing Coalition will be hosting a Lobby Day and you can join them in person at the hearing (wear mustard yellow!). For more information, contact amy.dudley@oregonlegislature.gov and we will get you connected.
