Børge<p>Goddamit. I thought that for once, or maaaybe twice, in the 19 years I've been running Linux, that this one time an upgrade from one version to the next had gone fine. Things looked good. Then now there's very obvious graphical glitches in Gnome Settings and Nautilus. Ugh. Guess I'll have to do a clean install yet again. This must be my biggest annoyance with Linux right now, I think.</p><p><a href="https://tutoteket.no/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://tutoteket.no/tags/Nobara" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Nobara</span></a> <a href="https://tutoteket.no/tags/peeve" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>peeve</span></a></p>
Jody Lemoine 🇨🇦<p>Someone just referred to Cybersecurity Awareness Month as “Cyber Month” and I’m (once again) shaking my head. Cyber by itself has nothing to do with security, crypto by itself has nothing to do with currency, &amp;c. Prefixes are essentially adjectives. It’s like saying “red” and expecting people to assume the thing we’re describing. <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Peeve" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Peeve</span></a></p>
Pseudo Nym<p>Journalism and news tip.</p><p>"This &lt;whatever&gt;" in a headline is click bait. </p><p>Let it pass over and through you, and do not engage. </p><p>Starve the beast of the attention it craves. </p><p>Demand specific nouns!</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/peeve" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>peeve</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/news" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>news</span></a></p>
C.<p>What's your current pet <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/peeve" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>peeve</span></a> with <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/systemd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>systemd</span></a>, you ask? [1]</p><p>Well, one of the oldest <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/complaints" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>complaints</span></a> about it is its <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/stupid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>stupid</span></a> binary <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/logging" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>logging</span></a> system. "Instead of paging your way through /var/log/messages, just run journalctl !" they say.</p><p>But if you run <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/journalctl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>journalctl</span></a>, it'll start at the beginning of the log. For this machine, that's a few months ago. I want to get to "now", so hit `G` ... and wait for literally *minutes* for it to parse through the whole bloody thing.</p><p>1/x</p><p>[1] You didn't ask.</p>
Pseudo Nym<p>Dear package delivery folks. </p><p>I know your working conditions are terrible, and you need to get an insane amount of work done. </p><p>But could we please not leave packages up against my outward-opening front door?</p><p>The small ones are just annoying when they fall over, the large ones are a fire hazard if I can't open my door. </p><p>There is plenty of space to either side, and even a convenient small table in the shade, right there. </p><p>Thanks </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/peeve" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>peeve</span></a></p>
Keith Dawson<p>The idiom is "to give in." You give in to pressure. You do not give into pressure.
