So, we're worth £20 and more profit to the private sector.
"GPs in England will be paid £20 each time they decide not to send a patient to hospital under a government scheme to help reduce the NHS waiting list.
Family doctors will be able to claim the money if they instead refer patients for tests and treatment in an out-of-hospital setting, such as a health clinic, or to see a community-based specialist"

Given the scrutiny the water industry is under, you might have expected them to make sure the number of 'pollution incidents' in 2024 dropped, if not by the 40% (latterly) demanded by OFWAT, then at least by some smaller reduction.... but no; incidents across England rose by 30% (the highest in 10 years).
If public scrutiny & the regulator cannot drive improvement, the case for (re)nationalisation of water looks ever stronger!
Your regular reminder that white Christian Ultranationalism aims to replace the US government (and eventually all democracies) with either a theocracy or a technocracy - whichever faction wins. #Trump is just the useful idiot and Trojan horse for #Project2025. Which explains what you are seeing: stripping the US down to bare metal for a rebuild.
"The states will take over education. Some will do a good job. Others not so much. And in some places, education will be privatized, with all the issues that implies. One thing that’s for certain, equal access to education will be a thing of the past, much of the progress of the last six decades wiped out."

It’s crucial to separate open as in open for business (to enclose) from free as in freedom. The former is not about freedom but privatisation.
Privatised water has failed. Just look at your water bills or the sewage pouring into our rivers. Steve Reed - include public ownership as an option in your independent commission on the water sector. Sign the petition

@Geri Who knew that privatising basic, essential services like water, electricity, gas, rubbish collection, mail, defense research, airports, rail and healthcare would lead to shitty, expensive service at the same time as enriching the shareholders and executives?
I'm sure I've missed some out.
Literally every single one of these privatised (or nearly-privatised) services in UK is now a total crock of expensive shit.
The failure of water privatisation & its subsequent regulation is ever more apparent!
Having drained the water companies of capital via dividends & executive pay, the water companies have now got the supine OFWAT to agree to an average 26% water bill increase this year, the largest since privatisation, to fix the very problems caused by the investors draining the firms of cash;
OFWAT has been well & truly captured by the industry it purports to regulate!

We need NHS Complex Care Centres.
Funny how I got 'addicted' before ever taking gabapentin?
It's almost like... not being in pain is a desirable outcome!
We all deserve Bed and Bread.
I can't believe the government are letting our water bills go up by as much as £220 a year. I've just emailed my MP asking them to intervene. Can you join me? https://weownit.org.uk/act-now/stop-the-bill-hikes
@Geri Remember when there were two deliveries of post a day including one before breakfast? Remember when a first class stamp was inexpensive and would get to the recipient before breakfast the next day? Remember getting post on Saturday?

Meanwhile in Spain, the combination of widespread regional drought & the rights of private water companies to syphon water out of the aquifers has become a major political issue - of course this issue is hardly limited to Spain, and merely suggests that problems common across poorer countries are coming closer to the developed world....
As the article is neatly headlined:
'Its not drought - its looting'!
If you live in Wiltshire or BANES your local hospital and commu ity service just got taken over by Virgin, a fully private health 'provider'. A decision directly signed off by WEs STreeting.
in mid-October, Streeting’s NHS awarded a contract for around £1.3bn to HCRG Care Group, the rebranded Virgin Care, through Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board,

If you’re vaccinated, your insurance won't cover it. As only rich people can afford, poor folks will be ravaged by disease.
It's not just going to be #measles, #mumps, #polio, #whoopingcough, flu, #COVID, etc. It'll be the classics like #cholera and #typhus, no more “red-tape” health inspectors … make America like the 1700s again ?

If you are concerned by the role of Big Tech in the NHS (and specifically the role of Oracle, then you will find much of interest (and likely some stuff you're already aware of) in Corporate Watch's report on Oracle's work in the NHS.

Yesterday, a major march in London aimed to put more pressure on the Govt. to deal more quickly & more extensively with the crisis in England provided water sector.... will they respond with further action(s)?
I'm not holding my breath.... without the closure & reconfiguration of OfWat alongside re municipalisation of the water sector, resolution of the crisis looks unlikely, and its not clear Labour has an appetite for either!
So we have an #EE engineer booked for this morning.
Difficult to reach #Rural broadband in #Herefordshire is an afterthought.
#Gigaclear had the contract specifically for hard to reach areas, but shockingly, once the towns and villages were in, the actually hard to reach areas were left hanging.
#privatisation of public #utilities and #infrastructure is nothing more than syphoning off public funds.
I read this article with increasing disquiet.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting (who, let us not forget, has accepted massive donations from private healthcare interests) is planning to make all our confidential patient information accessible to all 1.5m NHS workers, not just those treating us at the time. This will no doubt include privatised NHS branded companies.
That sound is Palantir rubbing its grubby hands..
