I loved these llamas peacefully grazing among the ruins of Pumapungo ("the door of the puma" in Quechua), a city laid by the Incas centuries ago. This place, that was compared to the empire capital, Cusco, was the northern border of the Inca territory. It is in current day Cuenca, Ecuador.

I love this old gas station. It makes me dream of the day when all gas stations look like this!

(I also like it because I have often romanticized about owning that cliche gas station on a lonely desert road in the middle of nowhere. You've seen it in the movies, the gas station with the old guy in a rocking chair, the '50s style Coke machine, and the big dog you have to step over to go inside.)

The back of the station is to the right and the front faces left. Our view is toward the left corner of the station. Under the canopy is the pump island with only two skeletons of gas pumps left. An old partially disassembled sedan sits under the canopy closet to the station door. The widows are boarded up. An old weathered flat bed truck is visible on the far right. It points forward toward the left side of the frame. It is very rusty. There are clouds in the sky and various weeds grow around the station.

Ruins of an old stone house stand under a tall cliff. The cliff is made of intensely colorful layers ranging from green to pink to many shades of dark red. The stones the house is made of are shades of dark red, making the house blend into the wall behind it. The house has window frames made from old weathered wood, some of them standing alone with no rock around them. There's an old metal wagon wheel leaning against the front of the house.

A nice little Four Corners / canyon country ruin.

A black and white landscape photo showing a habitation site that dates to about the 1200s. It is a small complex of rooms built under a cliff overhang. There are six openings, likely doors, in a continuous wall made of rectangular sandstone blocks. A unit on the left is setback further than the other five units and it has a stone slab closing the door like opening. A long dead stump with a long single branch is present at lower center frame. The ruin is in shadow under the overhang. Bright sun shines on the foreground and a bit of cloud streaked sky is visible in the upper right.

Culross Abbey: Mellor

If only Gandalf knew about punctuation. 'Speak "friend" and enter", indeed.
Around the north end of Culross Abbey I found this pair of archways, the light in the distance catching the stonework in a pleasing contrasty way. Something about the shape of the foreground arch reminded me of Lord of the Rings.
